Common Questions What can a 60W solar panel power? A 60W solar panel is suitable for charging 12V or 24V battery banks to power low-consumption devices such as LED lights, phone chargers, small fans, and maintaining the charge of leisure batteries in vehicles or boats. It's designed for trickle charging and supporting modest power needs. Why do I need a charge controller? A charge controller is essential for solar panels rated 20W and above. It protects your battery from overcharging, which can significantly reduce its lifespan. It also prevents reverse current drain from the battery back to the solar panel at night, and offers various other protections to ensure system safety and efficiency. Can this kit charge both my leisure and starter battery? Yes, the included STCC10 10A Dual Battery Charge Controller is specifically designed to charge two separate battery banks simultaneously. This makes it ideal for applications like campervans or boats where you might have a leisure battery and a starter battery. Is this panel suitable for permanent outdoor installation? Yes, the STP060 60W rigid solar panel is constructed for durability and designed for permanent outdoor installation. Its robust frame and weather-resistant design make it suitable for various environments, including marine and vehicle rooftops. Installation Notes Ensure the solar panel is securely mounted in a location that receives maximum sunlight exposure throughout the day, free from shading. Connect the solar panel to the charge controller, and then the charge controller to your battery bank(s), following the correct polarity and wiring sequence as specified in the product manual. Use appropriate gauge wiring for all connections to minimise power loss and ensure safety. Position the charge controller in a dry, well-ventilated area, away from direct sunlight or extreme temperatures. For safety and optimal performance, professional installation is recommended, especially for complex systems. Before You Buy Assess Your Power Needs: Calculate the total wattage and amp-hours required by your devices to ensure the 60W panel meets your energy demands. Check Battery Compatibility: Confirm that your battery type (e.g., lead-acid, gel, AGM) is compatible with the PWM charge controller. Verify System Voltage: Ensure your battery bank operates at 12V or 24V, which the controller automatically recognises. Consider Mounting Space: Measure the available space for the solar panel (670 x 640 x 35mm) to ensure proper fitment. Review Wiring Requirements: Plan for necessary cabling and connectors, ensuring they are suitable for outdoor use and the specified current. Please verify all specifications and compatibility requirements before purchase. Product details are based on manufacturer information and verified public data.
