Campervans & Motorhomes Provides supplementary power for leisure batteries, suitable for small loads or maintaining charge during storage. Off-Grid & Remote Systems Suitable for powering small sensors, monitoring equipment, or low-power lighting in remote locations. Garden Sheds & Outbuildings Offers a simple solution for providing power to small devices or lighting where mains electricity is unavailable. Built-In Protection & Durability The Solar Technology 5W Flexi Solar Panel is constructed with a six-layer heavy-duty laminate, ensuring complete encapsulation and protection of the solar cell circuit from extreme weather conditions. The ETFE top layer provides a 'memory effect' or self-healing capacity against minor abrasions, and its dimpled surface offers anti-slip properties, particularly useful on boat decks where it can be walked on with soft deck shoes. The junction box is injected with special silicon to guarantee no water ingress, and its unique curved design with strain relief for the fitted cable enhances overall durability and safety. Common Questions What type of battery can this 5W panel charge? This 5W panel is primarily designed for trickle charging 12V lead-acid batteries (including GEL, AGM, and flooded types) to maintain their charge. It can also be used with compatible lithium batteries when paired with an appropriate charge controller. Is a charge controller necessary for such a small panel? Yes, a charge controller is always recommended, even for small panels like this 5W unit. It prevents overcharging your battery, which can extend battery life and prevent damage. How is the panel typically installed? The panel can be bonded to flat or slightly curved surfaces (e.g., painted aluminium, GRP, fibreglass) using the supplied bonding agent, such as Simson ISR 70-03. It also features pre-drilled 4.5mm holes for optional mechanical fixing. Can this flexible panel be walked on? Yes, the PV Logic Flexi range, including this 5W panel, can be walked on with soft deck shoes due to its robust ETFE top layer and dimpled anti-slip surface. Installation Notes Surface Preparation: Ensure the mounting surface is clean, dry, and free from grease or dust for optimal adhesion. Bonding Method: Apply the bonding agent in the recommended pattern (as per instructions) to ensure proper airflow beneath the panel, preventing heat build-up and potential warping. Mechanical Fixing: If mechanical fixing is preferred or used in conjunction with bonding, utilise the pre-drilled holes and appropriate fasteners for your surface type. Cable Routing: Route the 4m UV stabilised PV cable securely, ensuring it is protected from abrasion and excessive strain. Professional Advice: For complex installations or if unsure, consult with a qualified solar installer. Before You Buy Battery Voltage: Confirm your battery system is 12V, as this panel is designed for 12V charging. Charge Controller: Remember that a charge controller is essential and not included. Select a suitable 12V PWM or MPPT controller for your battery type. Power Requirements: Assess your daily power needs to ensure a 5W panel provides sufficient trickle charge for your intended application. Mounting Surface: Verify that your intended mounting surface is suitable for bonding or mechanical fixing and can accommodate the panel's dimensions. Always verify product specifications and compatibility with your existing system components before purchase. Professional installation is recommended for optimal performance and safety.
