Built-In Protection Functions The integrated 10A charge controller includes essential protection features to safeguard your battery and system. This includes a built-in diode which effectively prevents reverse current flow from the battery back to the solar panel during low light conditions or at night, ensuring your battery maintains its charge. Common Questions What can a 40W folding solar panel power? A 40W panel is suitable for charging 12V batteries that power small devices such as LED lights, mobile phones, tablets, and small portable electronics. It's designed for maintaining battery charge and providing supplemental power rather than running high-wattage appliances. Is this solar panel weather-resistant? Yes, the panel is designed for outdoor use and is generally weather-resistant, capable of withstanding typical UK outdoor conditions. However, it is not intended for prolonged submersion in water. It's advisable to store it in a dry place when not in use, especially during heavy rain or extreme weather. How do I connect the panel to my battery? The kit includes an extension cable with both crocodile clips and a 12V auto plug. You can connect the crocodile clips directly to your 12V battery terminals, ensuring correct polarity. Alternatively, use the 12V auto plug to connect to a compatible 12V socket. The integrated charge controller manages the charging process. Does it require direct sunlight to work? Crystalline solar panels perform best and generate maximum power in direct, unobstructed sunlight. While they can still generate some power in overcast conditions or partial shade, the output will be significantly reduced. For optimal performance, position the panel facing the sun and adjust it throughout the day if possible. Installation Notes Positioning: Place the solar panel in an area that receives maximum direct sunlight throughout the day, free from shadows. Stability: Utilise the integrated fold-away stand to angle the panel towards the sun and ensure it is stable on a flat surface. Connection: Connect the supplied cable to your 12V battery using either the crocodile clips or the 12V auto plug. Ensure correct polarity (+ to + and - to -). Battery Type: This panel and controller are designed for 12V lead-acid batteries (e.g., leisure, gel, AGM). Cable Management: Route cables safely to avoid tripping hazards or damage. Before You Buy Power Needs: Assess your daily power consumption to ensure a 40W panel meets your charging requirements. Battery Compatibility: Confirm your battery is a 12V lead-acid type (e.g., leisure, gel, AGM) suitable for this charge controller. Space & Portability: Consider the folded dimensions and weight if portability and compact storage are primary concerns. Sunlight Availability: Evaluate the typical sunlight exposure at your intended usage locations for effective charging. System Expansion: If you plan to expand your solar setup, consider if this panel integrates with your future requirements. Always verify product specifications and compatibility with your existing system before purchase. This product comes with a two-year product warranty.
