It features Pulse Width Modulation (PWM) technology to enhance charge acceptance and can even help recover some lost battery capacity. Feature Description Battery Type Selection User-selectable settings for 12V sealed, gel, and flooded batteries. PWM Charging Utilises PWM technology for efficient, multi-stage battery charging. Load Output Terminals Connect 12V DC loads (e.g., lights) directly to the controller with an on/off switch. LED Indicators Clear LEDs display battery state of charge, solar panel status, and load output. Typical Applications Application Description Campervans & Caravans Maintain leisure battery charge for lights, fans, and small electronics. Boats & Marine Use Trickle charge marine batteries to prevent discharge, powering navigation lights or small pumps. Small Off-Grid Systems Ideal for sheds, remote cabins, or powering electric fencing. Portable Device Charging Directly charge smartphones, tablets, and other USB-powered gadgets via the controller. Built-In Protection Functions The 5A solar charge controller is equipped with multiple safety features to protect your battery and connected devices. These include protection against reverse current at night (preventing battery discharge back through the panel), overcharge, over-discharge, overvoltage, overload, and short circuits. Common Questions What type of batteries can this kit charge? This kit is designed to charge 12V DC batteries with a capacity larger than 15Ah. The controller is compatible with sealed, gel, and flooded lead-acid battery types, which can be selected by the user. Is the solar panel and controller waterproof? The 20W solar panel and its junction box are fully waterproof and weather-resistant, making them suitable for permanent outdoor installation. However, the 5A solar charge controller is not waterproof and must be installed indoors or in a protected, dry environment. Can I connect 12V loads directly to the controller? Yes, the controller includes dedicated load terminals for connecting 12V appliances such as lights. It features an on/off switch for the load. Ensure the total current drawn by the load does not exceed 5A. What kind of warranty is included? The kit is covered by a 1-year standard warranty. The solar panel specifically carries a performance guarantee of 90% power for 10 years and 80% for 25 years. Installation Notes A comprehensive user manual is included with the kit, providing clear installation guides and detailed instructions. The solar panel should be mounted with approximately 1.0 to 1.5 cm of clearance underneath for optimal cooling and performance. Ensure the solar charge controller is installed in a dry, protected indoor location, as it is not waterproof. The 2m battery cable with crocodile clips offers a quick and secure connection to your 12V battery. Before You Buy Verify your battery type (sealed, gel, or flooded) to ensure correct settings on the charge controller. Confirm the power requirements of your 12V loads to ensure they do not exceed the controller's 5A limit. Consider the available space for the solar panel (485 x 345 x 25 mm) and its mounting requirements.
