Technical Specifications Parameter Value Model Temperature Sensor Manufacturer Victron Energy Compatible Battery Monitors BMV-702, BMV-712 Product Type Battery Monitoring Accessory MPN / SKU ASS000100000 Cable Length 1.5 metres (approx.) Battery Monitoring Integration Notes The Victron Temperature Sensor (ASS000100000) provides essential temperature data directly to your BMV-702 or BMV-712 battery monitor. This information is vital for understanding battery health and enabling temperature-compensated charging, which can significantly extend battery lifespan. It is important to note that when this sensor is connected, the BMV-702 and BMV-712 models will no longer be able to monitor a second battery voltage or the midpoint voltage. This is a design consideration for these specific battery monitors, requiring users to prioritise temperature monitoring over these secondary voltage readings. Typical Applications Off-Grid Solar Systems Essential for monitoring battery health in remote power setups where temperature fluctuations can impact performance. Marine & RV Installations Provides critical temperature data for leisure and mobile power systems, ensuring battery longevity on the move. Industrial Battery Banks Supports robust monitoring for larger, critical battery installations where precise temperature management is key. Any BMV-702/712 System Ideal for users prioritising accurate battery temperature data for compensated charging over secondary voltage monitoring. Common Questions What is the primary function of this sensor? It measures the temperature of your battery bank and sends this data to a compatible Victron BMV-702 or BMV-712 battery monitor. This information is crucial for optimising charging and protecting your batteries. Which Victron battery monitors is this sensor compatible with? This sensor is exclusively designed for use with the Victron BMV-702 and BMV-712 battery monitors. It is not compatible with other Victron BMV models or third-party monitors. Does using this sensor affect other BMV features? Yes, when the temperature sensor is connected, the BMV-702 and BMV-712 will not be able to monitor a second battery voltage or the midpoint voltage. This is a trade-off to enable accurate temperature monitoring. Why is battery temperature monitoring important? Accurate temperature data helps in optimising charging cycles through temperature compensation, which can prevent overcharging or undercharging and extend the overall lifespan of your batteries, especially in environments with fluctuating temperatures. Installation Notes Refer to the official Victron BMV-702 or BMV-712 manual for detailed installation instructions specific to your battery monitor model. Connect the sensor directly to the designated temperature port on the BMV shunt. Position the sensor securely on or near the battery bank that you wish to monitor to ensure accurate and representative temperature readings. Ensure all connections are secure and follow manufacturer guidelines for safe operation. Before You Buy Verify BMV Model: Confirm you own a Victron BMV-702 or BMV-712 battery monitor, as this sensor is not compatible with other models. Understand Feature Trade-Off: Be aware that connecting this sensor will disable the second battery voltage and midpoint monitoring functions on your BMV-702 or BMV-712. Assess System Needs: Consider if accurate battery temperature data for compensated charging is more critical for your setup than secondary voltage monitoring. Consult Documentation: Always review the latest Victron Energy documentation for full compatibility and installation details. Please verify all specifications and compatibility with your existing Victron Energy system before purchase. Product details are subject to manufacturer changes.
