Common Questions What is the benefit of an MPPT controller over a PWM controller? MPPT (Maximum Power Point Tracking) controllers, like the SmartSolar 250/70, dynamically track the optimal voltage and current point of your solar panels. This can result in up to 30% more energy harvest compared to simpler PWM (Pulse Width Modulation) controllers, especially in variable weather conditions. How do I monitor and configure the SmartSolar MPPT 250/70? The controller features built-in Bluetooth, allowing you to connect wirelessly via the free VictronConnect App on your smartphone, tablet, or PC. This app provides real-time data, historical logs, and full customisation of charging parameters. Can this controller be used with different battery types? Yes, the SmartSolar MPPT 250/70 is compatible with a wide range of battery chemistries, including lead-acid (AGM, Gel, Flooded, Tubular plate) and Lithium batteries. The charging algorithm is flexible and can be programmed to match your specific battery requirements. What accessories are compatible with this charge controller? Optional accessories include the SmartSolar Pluggable LCD display for direct monitoring, the MPPT Control panel, and VE.Direct cables for connection to a PC or Victron GX devices for advanced system integration and remote management via the VRM portal. Installation Notes Ensure correct polarity when connecting solar panels and batteries to prevent damage. Mount the controller in a well-ventilated area, away from direct sunlight and heat sources, to ensure optimal performance and cooling. Use appropriate cable gauges for PV and battery connections to minimise voltage drop and ensure safety. For 36V battery systems, configuration is required via the VictronConnect App or an optional display. Refer to the detailed user manual for comprehensive wiring diagrams and installation instructions. Before You Buy Verify your solar panel array's open circuit voltage (Voc) does not exceed 250V under all conditions. Confirm your battery bank's nominal voltage (12V, 24V, 36V, or 48V) matches the controller's capabilities. Consider your total PV power output to ensure it falls within the controller's maximum limits for your chosen battery voltage. Assess your monitoring needs; the built-in Bluetooth is excellent, but optional displays or GX devices offer further integration. For optimal performance and safety, professional installation is recommended for complex solar systems. Always verify product specifications and compatibility with your existing solar system components before purchase. This Victron SmartSolar MPPT 250/70 controller is covered by a 5-year manufacturer's warranty.
