Common Questions What does GMDSS compliance mean for this charger? GMDSS (Global Maritime Distress and Safety System) compliance means the charger is designed to meet international maritime regulations for distress and safety communications. It provides integrated monitoring and alarm data essential for maintaining GMDSS battery banks. What type of batteries can this charger work with? The Victron Skylla-TG 24/30 GMDSS is compatible with various 24V battery types, including VRLA (Valve Regulated Lead Acid) and flooded lead-acid batteries. Its charge voltage can be precisely adjusted to suit specific battery requirements. Is the VE.Net GMDSS panel included with the charger? No, the VE.Net GMDSS digital panel, which displays data and alarms, is an essential component for full GMDSS functionality but must be ordered separately. Can this unit be used as a standalone power supply? Yes, thanks to its very stable output voltage, the Skylla-TG 24/30 GMDSS can effectively function as a standalone DC power supply in addition to its battery charging capabilities. Installation Notes Professional Installation: Installation should be carried out by a qualified professional in accordance with local regulations and manufacturer guidelines. Ventilation: Ensure the charger is mounted in a dry, well-ventilated area to prevent overheating and prolong its lifespan. Wall mounting can improve air circulation. Cable Sizing: Use short and thick battery cables to minimise voltage losses and ensure efficient charging. Tighten all battery connections securely. Battery Polarity: The Skylla-TG is NOT protected against reverse battery polarity. Incorrect connection will cause damage and void the warranty. Always disconnect the mains supply before making or breaking battery connections. Grounding: Connect the earth screw to a proper earth-point for safety. Before You Buy System Voltage: Confirm your battery bank is a 24V system to ensure compatibility with this charger. GMDSS Panel: Remember that the VE.Net GMDSS panel is required for displaying monitoring and alarm data and is sold separately. Power Requirements: Verify the charger's 30A output capacity meets your system's charging needs. Installation Environment: Consider the marine-grade construction and ensure the chosen installation location is suitable for its specifications. Always verify product specifications and compatibility with your specific system requirements before purchase. Specifications are subject to change by the manufacturer.
