This professional-grade isolation transformer completely eliminates electrical continuity between the shore supply and your boat's onboard AC system, safeguarding both your crew and underwater metal components. Designed for robust performance in demanding marine environments, this 7000W unit provides a stable and isolated power supply, making it indispensable for yachts, boats, and other vessels relying on shore-side electricity. Its advanced toroidal design ensures quiet, efficient operation, while the integrated soft start feature prevents nuisance tripping of marina circuit breakers. Essential Safety: Eliminates electrical continuity between AC shore power and the vessel, crucial for preventing galvanic corrosion and ensuring onboard safety. Key Features ▶ Complete Galvanic Isolation — Physically separates your vessel's AC system from shore power, preventing stray current corrosion of underwater metals. ▶ Enhanced Electrical Safety — Ensures Residual Current Devices (RCDs/GFCIs) and circuit breakers function correctly on board, even without a direct shore-side ground connection. ▶ Soft Start Functionality — Prevents shore power circuit breakers from tripping due to high inrush current when plugging in. ▶ Toroidal Transformer Design — Offers low noise, compact size, reduced weight (31 kg), and high efficiency for marine installations. ▶ Voltage Compensation — Features a 1:1.05 voltage ratio, boosting 230V input to 240V output to compensate for common marina voltage drops. ▶ Robust & Durable Enclosure — Housed in an IP21 rated, corrosion-resistant aluminium enclosure (RAL 5012 blue) for marine environments. Technical Specifications Parameter Value Model ITR000702001 Power Rating 7000W (7000VA) Input Voltage 230V AC Output Voltage 230V AC (240V AC with 1:1.05 boost) Frequency 50/60 Hz Current Rating 32A Transformer Type Toroidal Protection Category IP21 Dimensions (H x W x D) 362 x 258 x 218 mm Weight 31 kg Operating & Power Guidance The Victron Isolation Transformer 7000W is designed to seamlessly integrate into marine AC electrical systems. It takes the incoming shore power on its primary side and provides a completely isolated AC supply on its secondary side to the vessel. This magnetic coupling ensures no direct electrical connection between the shore ground and the boat's ground, effectively preventing galvanic corrosion. The 1:1.05 voltage ratio is a key feature, boosting a nominal 230V shore supply to 240V on the vessel. This compensates for voltage drops commonly experienced in marinas, ensuring your onboard appliances receive a stable and sufficient voltage. The unit is compatible with both 50Hz and 60Hz shore power frequencies, offering flexibility for international cruising, though it does not convert frequency. For optimal safety, it is recommended to connect the secondary neutral of the transformer to ground when the boat is out of the water. Typical Applications Application Description Marine Vessels Indispensable for boats, yachts, and other vessels connecting to shore power, providing critical electrical isolation. Shore Power Connections Ensures safe and reliable connection to marina shore power pedestals, preventing galvanic corrosion and enhancing safety. Professional Marine Systems A core component in high-quality marine electrical installations, integrating with other Victron components for a complete energy system. Built-In Protection Functions The Victron Isolation Transformer 7000W incorporates several features to ensure safety and reliable operation. It provides complete galvanic isolation, eliminating the direct electrical path that causes stray current corrosion. The soft start circuitry manages inrush current, preventing shore power circuit breakers from tripping upon connection. Its design ensures that onboard GFCIs and fuses operate correctly in the event of a short circuit to a metal part on the boat, maintaining safety standards comparable to onshore installations. The unit is housed in an IP21 rated enclosure, offering protection against dripping water. It complies with appropriate European standards, including EN 60076 for safety. Common Questions What is an isolation transformer? An isolation transformer magnetically couples two electrical circuits without a direct metallic connection. In marine applications, it separates the vessel's AC system from the shore power ground, preventing electrical continuity. Why is it important for boats? It is crucial for marine safety and to prevent galvanic corrosion. Without it, stray currents can flow through the water, corroding underwater metal parts like shafts and propellers. It also ensures onboard safety devices like GFCIs function correctly. How does the "soft start" feature work? The soft start feature limits the initial surge of current (inrush current) when the transformer is first connected to shore power. This prevents the shore power circuit breaker from tripping, which is common with high-power transformers. Can this transformer convert voltages or frequencies? This 7000W model is primarily a 230V input/output unit, with a 1:1.05 ratio to boost 230V to 240V. While some Victron isolation transformers can convert between 115V and 230V, this specific model is 230V only. It is compatible with both 50Hz and 60Hz systems but does not convert frequency. Installation Notes Professional Installation Recommended: Due to the critical safety aspects of marine electrical systems, installation should be carried out by a qualified marine electrician. Location: Install in a sheltered location within the vessel, considering its weight (31 kg) and dimensions (362 x 258 x 218 mm). The IP21 rating provides protection against dripping water. Grounding: Ensure proper grounding of the secondary neutral to the vessel's ground system. For optimal safety, connect the secondary neutral to ground when the boat is out of the water. Ventilation: Allow adequate airflow around the unit for cooling, especially given its temperature-controlled fan. Before You Buy Verify Power Requirements: Confirm the 7000W rating is sufficient for your vessel's total AC load when connected to shore power. Voltage Compatibility: This model is designed for 230V AC input and output. Ensure your shore power supply matches this requirement. Physical Space: Check the dimensions (362 x 258 x 218 mm) and weight (31 kg) to ensure suitable mounting space is available on your vessel. Local Regulations: Always consult local marine electrical codes and regulations to ensure compliance for your specific installation. Please verify all specifications and compatibility requirements with a qualified professional before purchase and installation. Product specifications are subject to change by the manufacturer.
