Technical Specifications Parameter Value Fuse Type MEGA-fuse Current Rating 40A Max Voltage Rating 80V DC Terminal Size M8 (5/16") Distance Between Terminals 50.8 mm Dimensions (L x W) 68.8 x 19 mm Weight 10 g Typical Applications Application Description Solar PV Systems Protecting connections between solar charge controllers and batteries, or inverter DC inputs and battery banks. Off-Grid & Hybrid Systems Essential for DC power distribution, battery bank protection, and critical load circuits in remote or self-sufficient setups. Marine & Automotive Providing high-current protection for vehicle electrical systems, RVs, boats, and other mobile applications. Industrial DC Equipment Used in various industrial settings requiring robust DC circuit protection for machinery and power supplies. Built-In Protection Functions The Victron Energy MEGA fuse is a passive safety device designed to protect electrical circuits from damage caused by overcurrent. It functions by melting and breaking the circuit when the current exceeds its rated amperage, thereby preventing overheating, component failure, and potential fire hazards. This essential protection is crucial for maintaining the integrity and safety of any high-current DC power system. Common Questions What is a MEGA fuse used for? MEGA fuses are specifically designed for high-current DC applications, typically found in battery banks, inverters, solar systems, and automotive/marine electrical setups. They provide robust over-current protection for circuits handling significant power. How do I choose the correct fuse rating? The fuse rating should be slightly higher than the maximum continuous operating current of the circuit it protects, but lower than the maximum current rating of the wire or component it is safeguarding. Always consult the equipment manufacturer's specifications and relevant electrical codes. Is this fuse suitable for 12V, 24V, or 48V systems? Yes, this 40A MEGA fuse is rated for up to 80V DC, making it suitable for use in common 12V, 24V, and 48V DC battery systems, provided the 40A rating meets the circuit's protection requirements. What does M8 terminal size mean? M8 refers to the metric thread size of the bolt-down terminals on the fuse. This means it requires an M8 bolt and is compatible with cable lugs designed for M8 studs, commonly referred to as 5/16" in imperial measurements. Installation Notes Always ensure the power supply is disconnected before installing or replacing any fuse. Use a compatible MEGA fuse holder for secure and proper installation. Ensure all connections are clean, tight, and free from corrosion to prevent resistance and heat build-up. Installation should ideally be performed by a qualified professional to ensure safety and compliance with local regulations. Before You Buy Verify Amperage: Confirm that a 40A fuse is the correct rating for your specific circuit and components. Check Voltage: Ensure your system voltage does not exceed the 80V DC rating of this fuse. Confirm Fuse Holder Compatibility: This fuse requires a MEGA fuse holder with M8 terminals. System Requirements: Always refer to your equipment manuals for recommended fuse types and ratings. Please verify all specifications and compatibility requirements with your system before purchase. Product specifications are subject to change by the manufacturer.
