Technical Specifications Parameter Value Manufacturer Victron Energy Product Type MEGA Fuse Current Rating 250A Voltage Rating Up to 80V DC Terminal Size M8 Distance Between Terminals 50.8mm Dimensions (L x W) 68.8 x 19 mm Weight 10g Typical Applications Application Area Description Solar & Wind Systems Protection for connections between solar/wind charge controllers and battery banks. Off-Grid Inverter Systems Essential for DC input protection between off-grid inverters and batteries. DC Power Distribution Used in main DC power distribution or high-current charging circuits. Automotive & Marine Suitable for high-current DC applications in vehicles, boats, and other mobile setups. Built-In Protection Functions The Victron Energy MEGA Fuse 250A provides essential over-current protection by acting as a sacrificial component in a DC electrical circuit. In the event of a short circuit, overload, or equipment fault, the fuse element melts, thereby safely interrupting the flow of excessive current. This prevents damage to more expensive components such as batteries, inverters, and cabling, and significantly reduces the risk of electrical fires. It is a fundamental safety device for any high-current DC system. Common Questions What is a MEGA fuse? A MEGA fuse is a high-current, bolt-down style fuse commonly used in automotive, marine, and renewable energy DC systems. It is designed to protect circuits with high amperage requirements, typically from 30A up to 500A or more. Why is fuse protection important in DC systems? Fuse protection is crucial to prevent damage to electrical components and wiring from over-current conditions like short circuits or overloads. Without proper fusing, excessive current can lead to overheating, component failure, and potentially fire. How do I choose the correct fuse rating? The fuse rating should be selected based on the maximum continuous current draw of the circuit it protects, and the current carrying capacity of the wiring. It should be rated slightly higher than the normal operating current but lower than the maximum current the wiring and components can safely handle. Always consult equipment manuals and relevant electrical standards. What type of fuse holder is compatible with this MEGA fuse? This Victron Energy MEGA fuse requires a compatible MEGA fuse holder. These holders are specifically designed with M8 terminals to securely accommodate the fuse and ensure proper electrical contact. Installation Notes Always disconnect all power sources before installing or replacing fuses. Ensure the fuse is installed in a compatible MEGA fuse holder with M8 terminals. Mount the fuse holder in a dry, protected location, away from direct moisture or excessive heat. Verify that all connections are clean, tight, and secure to prevent resistance and heat build-up. Never replace a fuse with one of a higher rating than specified for the circuit. Before You Buy Verify Current Rating: Confirm that a 250A fuse is the correct rating for your specific application and circuit. Check Voltage Compatibility: Ensure your system voltage does not exceed the 80V rating of this fuse. Confirm Fuse Holder Type: This fuse requires a MEGA fuse holder; ensure you have or purchase the correct compatible holder. Consult System Documentation: Always refer to your equipment manuals and system design specifications for appropriate fuse selection. Safety First: If unsure about fuse selection or installation, consult a qualified electrician or solar professional. Product specifications are subject to change by the manufacturer. Always verify compatibility and requirements before purchase and installation.
