Technical Specifications Parameter Value Current Rating 125A Max Voltage Rating 80V DC Fuse Type MEGA Fuse Terminal Size M8 Distance Between Terminals 50.8mm Dimensions (L x W) 68.8 x 19 mm Weight 10g System Integration Notes The Victron Energy MEGA fuse is designed for seamless integration into various high-current DC systems. To ensure proper function and safety, it is crucial to use this fuse with a compatible MEGA fuse holder. These holders are specifically designed to accommodate the bolt-down terminals of MEGA fuses, providing a secure and reliable connection. This fuse is suitable for protecting circuits in 12V, 24V, and 48V nominal battery systems, provided the system voltage does not exceed 80V DC. Always match the fuse rating to the specific requirements of the circuit and connected equipment to ensure optimal protection without nuisance tripping. Typical Applications Application Description Solar/Wind Charge Controllers Protecting the connection between solar or wind charge controllers and battery banks. Off-Grid Inverter DC Input Safeguarding the DC input side of off-grid inverters connected to batteries. DC Power Distribution Used in general DC power distribution or charging circuits for protection. Automotive & Marine Systems Essential for high-current applications in vehicles, boats, and RVs. Built-In Protection Functions The Victron Energy MEGA fuse is a dedicated safety device designed to provide critical protection against various electrical hazards. Its primary function is to offer robust over-current protection, ensuring that if current levels exceed the fuse's 125A rating, the circuit is safely interrupted. • This safeguards connected equipment from damage due to short circuits, where an unintended low-resistance path causes a surge in current. • It also protects against general equipment faults and wiring errors that could lead to dangerous overload conditions, thereby preventing potential system failures or electrical fires. Common Questions What is a MEGA fuse used for? A MEGA fuse is used for high-current DC applications, typically to protect batteries, inverters, charge controllers, and other heavy-gauge wiring from overloads and short circuits. It's common in solar, marine, automotive, and off-grid power systems. How do I choose the correct fuse rating? The correct fuse rating should be slightly higher than the maximum continuous operating current of the circuit it protects, but lower than the maximum current rating of the wire or equipment. Always consult the manufacturer's specifications for your components. Is a fuse holder required for this MEGA fuse? Yes, a compatible MEGA fuse holder is required to properly install and secure this fuse within your electrical system. The fuse holder provides the necessary terminals and insulation for safe operation. Installation Notes Ensure all power is disconnected from the circuit before attempting any installation or replacement. Always use a compatible MEGA fuse holder designed for the M8 bolt-down terminals of this fuse. Connect the fuse in series with the positive DC line of the circuit it is intended to protect. Ensure all connections are clean, tight, and secure to prevent resistance and overheating. Professional installation by a qualified electrician is recommended for complex systems. Before You Buy Verify Current & Voltage: Confirm that the 125A rating and 80V maximum voltage are appropriate for your specific application. Check Fuse Holder Compatibility: Ensure you have a suitable MEGA fuse holder with M8 terminals for proper installation. Consult System Diagrams: Refer to your system's wiring diagrams and component manuals to determine the exact fuse requirements. Safety First: Understand the importance of proper fusing for circuit protection and personal safety. Always verify product specifications and compatibility with your existing system components before purchase and installation. Specifications are subject to change by the manufacturer.
