TOPDON TC004 Handheld Thermal Imaging Camera The TC004 is the compact end of TOPDON's thermal range, and the interesting thing about it is where the compromise was not made. The detector is a 256x192 infrared array — the component that actually decides whether you can distinguish two adjacent terminals or only see a warm blur. Sensor resolution is not where this model economises. What it trades away is screen size and bulk, in exchange for a body you will genuinely carry and a rechargeable battery TOPDON rates for up to 8 hours of continuous use. That combination suits one buyer in particular: the technician who would otherwise leave a thermal camera in the van because getting it out is a job in itself. A camera in your hand finds faults; a camera in a case in the back does not. Straightforward Enough to Hand to Anyone TOPDON designs this one around an interface a first-time user can operate without training, and that is a real specification rather than a soft one. Thermal imaging has a learning curve, but almost all of it is about interpreting what you see rather than driving the menus. A camera that gets out of the way lets a second technician, an apprentice or a building manager take a useful image on their first afternoon with it. Three measurement modes with automatic hot and cold spot detection support that directly. Automatic detection means the camera finds the extremes in frame for you — sweep a consumer unit or a bank of radiators and the outlier is flagged without anyone placing a cursor. Manual point and area measurement are there when you need the reading to be about one specific component. Where the Faults Show Up First Heat precedes failure in most systems. A loose electrical connection warms before it burns; a bearing runs hot before it seizes; an insulation gap or a thermal bridge shows as a cold patch on an internal wall long before anyone notices a damp problem; a brake that drags is hot at the end of a short drive. The TC004 is aimed squarely at that class of work — electrical inspection, HVAC evaluation, building diagnostics and automotive troubleshooting — where the value is in seeing the problem while it is still cheap. Adjustable emissivity settings are part of doing that honestly. A thermal camera reads emitted radiation and infers temperature from it, so what the surface is made of changes the answer — polished metal is the classic trap, reading much cooler than it really is because it reflects its surroundings rather than radiating its own heat. Being able to set emissivity for the material in front of you is what turns an impression into a measurement. Multiple colour palettes then let you choose the rendering that makes your particular contrast obvious. Two Figures to Confirm Before You Order Published figures for two of this camera's specifications differ between TOPDON's own sources, so both are set out here with each figure attributed to where it appears. Screen size. TOPDON's written description of the TC004 specifies a bright 2.4-inch TFT display; the specification table published for the same product lists a 2.8-inch display (7.1 cm). If display size decides your purchase, confirm the current figure with us before ordering and we will have TOPDON state it. Object temperature range. The written description quotes -4°F to 1022°F (-20°C to 550°C); the specification table quotes -4°F to +662°F (-20 to 350℃). The bottom of the range is the same in both sources; the top is not, and the difference matters if you intend to measure anything genuinely hot. Confirm the upper figure with us in writing before ordering if your work depends on it. Both readings are carried into the specification table below exactly as each source states them, so you can see what you are buying against. Neither point reflects on the instrument itself — the sensor, optics and measurement figures on this page are consistent throughout. Optics, Frame Rate and Working Conditions The focal length is 0.12 in. (3.2 mm), giving the wide field of view TOPDON lists among the camera's characteristics — helpful when you want a whole board or a whole wall in a single frame instead of stitching several. Image frequency is 20 Hz, quick enough that the live picture stays coherent while you pan. The spectral range is 8 - 14μm, the long-wave infrared band suited to near-ambient inspection work. The camera operates from 14°F to 122°F (-10 to +50℃) and tolerates storage from 14°F to 131°F (-10 to +55℃). Portability, Light and Getting Images Out The body measures 9.4*2.76*3.54 in.(24*70*90 mm) and weighs 18.3 oz (520g). A built-in fill LED lights the subject for the visible-light side of the job — crawl spaces, plant rooms and under-dash work being where that stops being a novelty. Onboard storage holds a working day of images, and a simple export function moves them to a computer for analysis and reporting; the camera also supports PC image analysis and instant projection, so a survey can be reviewed on a full-size screen rather than squinted at in the field. Perfect For Electricians and electrical inspectors checking terminations, phase balance and load on distribution equipment. HVAC and plumbing technicians tracing flow problems, blocked coils, duct losses and underfloor heating runs. Home inspectors and builders looking for insulation gaps, air leakage and moisture patterns. Automotive technicians chasing dragging brakes, cooling faults, bad grounds and overheating components. Capable DIY owners who want to find the problem in their own house or car before paying somebody to look for it. What's in the Box The camera and its rechargeable internal battery. The PC analysis software is a download rather than an item in the carton, and no tripod, case, spare battery or memory card is listed as included in the data we hold. Ask us for the confirmed packing list before ordering if that matters, and we will confirm it with TOPDON against the carton. For a thermal camera the relevant question is usually calibration rather than electrical safety. Formal reporting regimes — regulated electrical inspection, some insurance surveys, certain energy assessment schemes — commonly require an instrument whose calibration is traceable and renewed at a stated interval, and nothing in this listing provides that. If your reports go into a scheme with that requirement, check it before you buy. For comparative diagnostic work, where the question is which component is hotter than the ones beside it, it is not a limitation. Shipping and Delivery Delivery is to addresses in the contiguous United States. Freight is calculated live at checkout from the destination you enter, which is why no shipping figure appears in this description — printed numbers age, and an aged number becomes a dispute. On the day, either be available to take the shipment or nominate collection from the carrier's terminal; delivery to a residential address is charged as a separate service. Inspect the outer packaging before you sign for it, and if anything is damaged, write it on the bill of lading while the driver is there rather than reporting it afterwards. That note is what makes a claim work. Warranty Cover is under TOPDON's manufacturer warranty. No duration appears in the product data we hold, so we have not printed one — and given the discrepancies noted above, approximating a warranty term would be exactly the wrong instinct. Contact us before ordering and we will confirm the current terms in writing; the claims process itself is on our warranty claims page. The standing condition applies here as everywhere: do not open the body or attempt an internal repair on a unit you may need to claim against. Photograph what is wrong, leave the camera intact, and speak to us before doing anything else.
