Topdon JumpSurge3000 12V Jump Starter & Power Bank Most jump packs protect you from the obvious mistake — clamps touched together, leads put on the wrong way round. The JumpSurge3000 does that too, and then does something the rest of the category does not advertise: its Stop Spark sensor will suspend the tool if it is asked for too many jumps inside a 10 minute period. That is a deliberate refusal to keep working, and it is the most useful single line on this spec sheet. Here is why it matters. The moment a jump pack becomes dangerous is not the first jump, it is the fourth — when a car will not catch, the person holding the clamps is getting frustrated, and the pack has had no chance to shed heat between attempts. That is when lithium cells get hot, when clamps arc, and when a jump pack stops being a rescue tool and becomes the second problem in the car park. A unit that says "no, wait" is doing the thinking that the person standing in the rain has stopped doing. Around that sits a genuinely large pack: a 24000mAh cell rated at 88.8Wh, 3000 Peak Amps of cranking current, and enough stored energy for 45 jump starts on one charge. Will it start your engine? Topdon rates this pack for 12V systems on gas engines up to 9L and diesel engines up to 7L. In practical terms that is the whole passenger fleet, pickups and vans, most RVs, boats with a conventional 12V start battery, and the small and mid diesels that defeat a car-sized booster. Two checks before you buy, both of which are your responsibility rather than ours. First, the vehicle must be a 12V system — some older trucks, tractors and marine setups are not, and no jump pack in this class is a substitute for the right voltage. Second, engine capacity rather than vehicle size is the number that counts. A compact van with a big diesel is a harder start than a large car with a small gas engine. The clamp leads are worth measuring against your engine bay before the day you need them. The positive lead is 250mm and the negative 200mm. That is a short, deliberate pair — short leads lose less voltage on the way to the terminals, which is where cranking current is actually won — but it does mean the pack sits on the battery, on the slam panel or in your hand, not on the ground beside the car. On a vehicle with the battery in the boot or under a seat, plan for that. The cooldown, and what it protects The Stop Spark system covers the failures people actually have. It rejects sparking at the clamps, and it steps in when repeated attempts inside a short window would overheat the pack. Alongside it the unit carries short circuit, over current, reverse polarity, reverse charge, over temperature and over discharge protection — a list that reads like every other jump pack's list until you notice that the temperature and discharge entries are the ones with teeth, because they are the ones that trigger when the operator is doing everything right and simply asking too much. The practical advice that follows from it: if the tool pauses, that is the tool working. Give the engine a minute, check the clamps are biting clean metal rather than a painted terminal collar, and try again. If it still will not catch after a handful of attempts, the fault is not a flat battery. Bidirectional Type-C, and why that changes the ownership This unit charges and discharges over the same Type-C socket at PD45W. Both directions matter, for different reasons. Charging in at that rate is what stops a jump pack becoming a dead brick in a drawer. The reason most jump starters fail their owners is not capacity, it is that nobody topped them up, because topping them up meant a proprietary barrel plug and a long wait. A pack that refills from the same charger as a modern laptop, on a cable already in the bag, actually gets refilled. Charging out at that rate is what makes it a power bank rather than a phone charger. PD45W will run a small laptop, not just a handset. Alongside it there is a Quick Charge 3.0 USB port supporting 5V/3A, 9V/2A and 12V/1.5A, a second USB output at 5V/2A, and a DC output rated 10A at a maximum of 16.8V for automotive accessories. The Type-C port itself steps through 5V/3A, 9V/3A, 12V/3A, 15V/3A and 20V/2.25A on the way up. Boost, for a battery that is past helping A conventional jump starter needs to sense a battery before it will deliver current. That is a sensible safety design and a useless one when the battery is dead or damaged enough that there is nothing to sense. The BOOST function overrides that handshake. It is the do-over button, and it is the difference between a recovery and a tow. Light, signal and weather The built-in flashlight runs at 400 lumens with an SOS mode — bright enough to work under a bonnet, and the SOS setting is there because a breakdown on a verge at night is a visibility problem before it is a mechanical one. The housing resists water, dust and wear, and the internal design is rated to keep working between -4°F and 140°F (-20°C to 60°C). That range is the reason this is a glovebox tool rather than a garage tool: a jump pack that lives in a car through a Phoenix summer or a Minnesota winter is living at the ends of that range, not the middle. Perfect For Drivers who cover distance — sales, trades, long commutes, anyone whose breakdown happens somewhere without a friendly second car. Diesel pickup and van owners, where a car-sized booster runs out of cranking current. Workshops and mobile technicians jumping several vehicles a day, who need a pack that manages its own heat. Boat, RV and seasonal-vehicle owners, where a battery that has sat all winter is the normal case rather than the failure case. Anyone carrying tools and devices who would rather one item did the jump pack job and the laptop charger job. What's in the Box The manufacturer data behind this listing does not publish an itemised packing list, and we are not going to invent one. What it does establish is that the unit ships with its own clamp leads, at the lengths quoted above, and that it recharges over Type-C. Whether a Type-C cable, a DC accessory lead or a carry case travels in the carton is not stated in the data we hold. Ask us before you order and we will confirm it against the current manufacturer packing list rather than guess. That is worth stating plainly rather than leaving blank, because lithium jump packs are one of the categories where a workplace, a fleet policy or an insurer may ask for specific documentation before a tool is allowed on site or carried in a vehicle. If that applies to you, tell us what scheme or document your policy names and we will obtain the current manufacturer paperwork before you order, rather than after. Shipping and delivery This ships as a parcel-sized item to addresses in the lower 48 states, or you can collect it from the warehouse. Carrier cost is worked out for your address at checkout rather than printed here, because rates move and a figure on a page goes stale. Lithium cells travel under carrier rules, so keep the packaging intact until you have checked the unit over, and note any damage on the delivery paperwork at the time — a note made at the door is what supports a claim later. Warranty Terms and the claim process are published on our warranty claims page. If a unit arrives faulty or fails in service, contact us before opening the housing or cutting a lead. A jump pack that has been taken apart cannot be assessed by anyone — and with a sealed lithium product, opening it is also the part that turns a warranty question into a safety one.
