Seachem Reef Kalkwasser™ is a premium product designed for the preparation of limewater solutions that maintain essential calcium concentrations. It is crafted with pure calcium hydroxide, ensuring optimal purity and solubility, crucial for sustaining natural seawater levels in marine aquariums. The use of kalkwasser plays a pivotal role in maintaining both calcium directly and carbonate alkalinity indirectly, depending on factors such as evaporation rate and CO2 concentration. This product is widely appreciated among marine enthusiasts who successfully use it to maintain vibrant reef systems. However, beginners might find it a bit challenging as it requires careful monitoring of carbonate alkalinity and magnesium levels. These elements must be balanced to prevent adverse effects like chalk precipitation and drastic pH changes. Calcium hydroxide solutions will result in a buildup of calcium carbonate on surfaces but are essential for coral health, as magnesium is a vital component needed by all corals. Regular cleaning and maintenance will be necessary to keep the aquarium in optimal condition. Although a highly pure and economical solution, experienced aquarium keepers often prefer kalkwasser for its efficacy in maintaining ionic balance. When using this product, it is imperative not to add it directly to the tank. To prepare, dissolve 3 g (1 teaspoon) in 4 L (1 gallon) of water. For a fully saturated solution with pure water, use 6 g (2 teaspoons) per 4 L (1 gallon). The solution is then dripped into the aquarium, with regular monitoring of pH and carbonate alkalinity required to maintain a stable environment. Handle with care to avoid contact with dust, and follow safety instructions in the event of accidental exposure. Key Features: High purity calcium hydroxide for effective limewater preparation.
