Seachem Reef Kalkwasser 1Kg - 398 is a refined calcium hydroxide product known for its exceptional purity and solubility, making it ideal for maintaining calcium concentrations at natural seawater levels in marine aquariums. It is specifically formulated to prepare limewater (kalkwasser) solutions that support both calcium and carbonate alkalinity balance within any reef system. While beneficial for seasoned aquarists, kalkwasser usage requires careful monitoring of carbonate alkalinity and magnesium levels to prevent calcium carbonate precipitation and undesirable pH shifts. Kalkwasser solutions are a trusted method among marine enthusiasts to ensure a thriving environment for corals by maintaining ideal calcium levels. Beginners, however, may find alternative methods more convenient. Regular maintenance is necessary to avoid the buildup of chalk deposits on aquarium surfaces, which can impede equipment function. Measures should also be taken to avoid direct contact with skin or eyes when handling the product due to the potential for irritation. Proper handling involves dissolving 3g of product per 4L of water, with an option for creating a saturated solution using 6g of product for environments utilising pure water. Regularly test parameters to maintain a stable pH between 8.3 and 8.4 by adjusting the solution drip rate accordingly to the evaporation rate and CO2 concentration. As with any kalkwasser solution, ensure the clear supernatant is used to prevent any undissolved material from entering the aquarium environment. Although reef systems demand dedicated attention, the benefits of using Seachem Reef Kalkwasser are plentiful for sustaining your aquarium's health and appeal.
