Schulz MSV 6/08 Oil-Free 1 HP Portable Compressor The specification that separates this machine from every other small portable compressor is its pump speed: 1730 RPM. A typical portable in this size class spins at roughly twice that, which is exactly why they shriek. Halving the shaft speed halves the number of compression events per minute, and the noise, the vibration and the wear all fall away with it. That is the whole design argument here, and it is why this model gets specified for medical and dental rooms — places where a compressor has to be in the building without being in the conversation. Slow speed only works if the pump can move enough air per stroke to compensate, and this one does it with a dual-piston, solid cast iron, oil-free pump — not the single-cylinder aluminium unit usually bolted to a portable tank. Two pistons, cast iron, turning slowly, delivering 6 CFM at 90 PSI with a 120 PSI ceiling from an 8-gallon tank on a 1 HP direct-drive motor. Will it fit? This is the one machine on this page you can genuinely move: 18" long, 19" wide, 25" tall, and 92 lb. That is a two-person lift into a van, or one person and a hand truck across a floor. It does not need a slab, an anchor or a dedicated room. It does need a proper circuit. Our specification sheet calls for a 20-amp breaker, and the wiring — including confirming which of the supply voltages the unit is configured for before it is plugged in — is the buyer's responsibility and should be checked by a licensed electrician. A small compressor on an undersized shared circuit is the classic cause of a breaker that trips every third start and a motor that dies early. Oil-free, and what that actually buys you An oil-free pump has no crankcase oil to carry over into the air stream. In a workshop that means you can spray, blow out a brake assembly or run an air tool without an oil-removal filter train standing between the tank and the work. In a clinical or laboratory setting it means something stronger: there is no oil in the machine that could contaminate anything downstream, full stop. The usual price of oil-free is a short-lived pump, because oil is a coolant as much as a lubricant. This design answers that with cast iron rather than alloy — cast iron carries heat away better and holds its bore dimensions as it cycles hot and cold — and with the low 1730 RPM shaft speed, which generates less friction heat to shed in the first place. The tank supports the same intent: the 8-gallon steel receiver carries an internal antibacterial powder coating, and the outside is epoxy coated to resist corrosion on both the tank and the pump. Controls you would not expect at this size Small portables usually give you one gauge and a fixed outlet. This one has a built-in regulator and pressure switch and dual gauges, so tank pressure and regulated line pressure are separate readings rather than one number you have to interpret. That matters more than it sounds: setting a nail gun or an airbrush to a specific working pressure is guesswork with a single gauge, and precise on a regulated outlet you can actually see. An intake air filter keeps shop dust out of the pump, and the tank has an ASME safety valve and a drain. Drain the tank after use. An 8-gallon receiver fills with condensate faster than people expect, and rust from the inside is what ends the life of a small tank. Three things to confirm before you order Published figures differ on three points. Each is set out below with its source, so you can settle whichever one decides your purchase. Supply voltage. The product title and the manufacturer's feature list describe this as a 115/230V machine; the specification table records it as 115/240 Volt AC. Both are shown here — confirm the voltage with us before you have anything wired. Tank orientation. One specification field records the tank as horizontal and another records it as vertical, while the title calls it a pancake. If the shape decides whether it fits a shelf, a cabinet or a van floor, ask us and we will confirm against stock. Oil. The pump is recorded as oil free, yet the same sheet also records an oil sight glass as fitted, which does not follow. Nothing on this page assumes the machine needs oil; check the manual that ships with it before adding anything to it, and call us if it is ambiguous. Perfect for Medical, dental and laboratory rooms needing clean, quiet air in an occupied space. Home garages and hobby benches running a nail gun, an airbrush, tyre inflation and a blow gun. Mobile and on-site work, where 92 lb is the difference between the compressor coming along and staying home. Second-machine duty in a shop that already has a big compressor and does not want to run it for one small job. What's in the box The compressor as described: dual-piston oil-free cast iron pump, direct-drive 1 HP motor, 8-gallon steel tank with internal antibacterial coating, built-in regulator and pressure switch, dual gauges, intake air filter, ASME safety valve and tank drain, tank outlet 1/4". No air dryer is fitted. Hose, fittings and accessories are not included and are not implied. Specifications Motor 1 HP, electric, direct drive Power supply 1-Phase (see the voltage note above) Recommended breaker 20 amp Pump Dual piston, solid cast iron, oil free, single stage Pump speed 1730 RPM Delivery 6 CFM at 90 PSI Maximum pressure 120 PSI Regulator Built in, with dual gauges Tank 8 gallon steel, internal antibacterial coating Tank outlet 1/4" Length 18" Width 19" Height 25" Weight 92 lb A sound rating exists in our data for this model, but without a stated measurement standard or distance it is not comparable to any other manufacturer's figure, so we have left it off rather than publish a number that looks precise and is not. Certification, stated plainly The tank carries an ASME safety valve, and ASME is the pressure-vessel code that applies. That is the certification our data records and the only one we will claim here. We are not implying any further third-party safety listing for the machine as a whole. This matters more than usual on this particular model, because clinics, dental practices, schools and laboratories very often have equipment listing requirements written into policy or local code. If you are buying for a regulated setting, ask us first and we will confirm exactly what appears on the unit's data plate before you order rather than after it arrives. Shipping and delivery This ships to the lower 48 states, with shipping quoted live at checkout for your actual address rather than estimated here. At 92 lb it is the one machine in this range that does not necessarily need a forklift, but it is still a heavy carton — have a second person, or a hand truck, ready. If delivery goes to a residential address, a residential fee applies and the checkout shows it before you pay. Pickup is available at Acworth, GA. Inspect the carton before you sign. Note any crushing, puncture or rattle on the delivery receipt at the time of delivery and photograph it while the driver is there — a clean signature makes a damage claim very hard to pursue afterwards. Warranty Coverage is 1 year, consumer and commercial, on the manufacturer's stated terms. If something goes wrong, do not take the pump, the pressure switch or the regulator apart before the claim is opened — a disassembled unit is normally treated as outside warranty however reasonable the diagnosis was. Call, text or chat with us on 866-774-7743 and we will tell you what the manufacturer needs to see first.
