Robinair Heavy-Duty R-134a Recovery, Recycling & Recharge Machine What separates this machine from the shop-floor R-134a units in the same catalogue is one design decision: the recovery tank is external and it comes off. Pair that with the onboard liquid pump and you have a machine built for systems that hold far more refrigerant than a car does — transit buses, refrigerated bodies, heavy equipment cabs and the sort of fleet work where a single recovery can fill an internal cylinder before the job is half done. When the tank is full you swap it and keep working, rather than stopping the bay to decant. Everything else follows from that. The unit runs a full automated cycle — recovery, vacuum, leak test, air purge, oil drain and inject, and recharge — off one program, without a technician standing at the panel opening and closing valves between stages. Robinair rates its recovery accuracy at 98.5%. The removable tank is the heavy-duty part Most A/C service machines are built around a sealed internal cylinder. That is fine for passenger cars, where a charge is measured in ounces and the cylinder holds several jobs' worth. It stops being fine the moment you put the hoses on a bus roof unit or a reefer trailer, because the recovery volume from one machine can exceed what a fixed cylinder will hold — and then the service stops mid-cycle while somebody works out where to put the refrigerant. The external 50 lb tank changes that job from a problem into a swap. Combined with the liquid pump, recovery on a large system is not just larger, it is faster: pulling refrigerant as a liquid moves far more mass per minute than pulling it as vapour, which is the difference between a service that fits in a bay slot and one that eats an afternoon. If you run several large recoveries back to back, having a second tank on the shelf turns the machine into something that keeps going all day. What "no panel valves" actually saves Fully automatic operation gets written on a lot of spec sheets, so it is worth being concrete about what it means here. You connect, select the service, and the machine sequences recovery, vacuum, leak test, air purge, oil handling and charging on its own. The technician is not tethered to the machine watching gauges and switching valves at each transition, which is where the labour cost of A/C service actually sits — not in the machine's cycle time, but in a person standing next to it. The display drives the parts that still need hands. It prompts when the drained oil should be emptied and shows the amount removed, so the correct quantity goes back in rather than an estimate, and it signals clearly when a service has finished or when something has gone wrong. Oil injection is handled automatically back into the vehicle's system. Refrigerant management, and why it matters on a fleet The integrated refrigerant management module tracks how much refrigerant the machine has used and how much life is left in the filter, and prompts for maintenance when either is due. On a single-bay shop that is a convenience. On a fleet operation it is closer to a requirement: refrigerant use is a reportable cost and a filter run past its rating quietly stops removing moisture and acid, which is how a machine starts putting contamination into the next vehicle instead of taking it out. Options worth deciding on at purchase Two upgrades are offered rather than fitted as standard: printable service data, and Wi-Fi/Bluetooth connectivity. The printer is the one to think hardest about if you invoice A/C work — a printed record of what came out and what went back in settles a customer conversation before it starts. The wireless option matters where service records need to leave the machine rather than live on it. Both are optional, so confirm which you want on the order; retrofitting later is possible but it is a second transaction. Perfect For Transit and municipal fleets servicing bus and coach A/C, where system capacity is the reason a standard machine will not do. Truck, trailer and refrigerated-body shops handling large mobile systems on R-134a. High-volume independent shops doing enough A/C work that stopping to decant a full cylinder is a measurable loss. Dealership heavy-duty departments that need documented, repeatable service rather than a manual gauge-set procedure. Shops servicing hybrid and EV air conditioning, which this machine is stated to handle. What's in the Box The machine, its detachable recovery tank and the liquid pump as described above. The printer is an option, and the Wi-Fi/Bluetooth capability is an upgrade — neither is included unless you order it. Refrigerant is never supplied with a machine of this type. Specifications Refrigerant R-134a Recovery accuracy 98.5% External tank 50 lb, removable Recovery aid Onboard liquid pump Automated stages Recovery, vacuum, leak test, air purge, oil drain, oil inject, recharge Vehicle types Standard and hybrid EV A/C systems Options Printer; Wi-Fi and Bluetooth upgrades Standards, stated honestly Robinair states this machine is built to the SAE J-2788 requirement for R-134a recovery and recharge equipment, and that is the one standard the data we hold actually names. It is a performance standard for recovery and charge accuracy — it is not a shop-equipment safety listing, and it is not a substitute for one. If your insurer, a fleet contract or a local inspection regime asks for a specific third-party equipment listing rather than the refrigerant-handling standard, ask us to confirm what documentation ships with the machine before you order and we will get the answer in writing from Robinair. Shipping and Delivery This unit ships freight to the lower 48 states, not by parcel carrier. You will need to be able to take it off the truck — a forklift, a loading dock, or enough hands and a ramp — or arrange to collect it from the carrier's terminal instead, which many shops find easier to schedule. Delivery to a residential address is possible and carries a residential fee, quoted live at checkout. When it arrives, inspect the crate before you sign: note any damage on the bill of lading at the moment of delivery, because a signature with no notation is treated as a clean receipt and makes a freight claim very hard to win afterwards. Warranty Covered by the manufacturer's warranty; the warranty terms are published on our warranty claims page rather than summarised here, so that what you read is the current document rather than a paraphrase. One practical warning that applies to every machine of this type: do not open, dismantle or attempt an internal repair before a claim has been raised and agreed. A unit that has been opened is routinely refused, and on refrigerant-handling equipment the seals and the calibrated scale are exactly the parts a well-meant investigation disturbs.
