Robinair R-ID Refrigerant Analyzer The useful thing about the R-ID is not that it identifies refrigerant — plenty of instruments do that. It is that it plugs into the machine you already own. The R-ID connects directly to any SAE J2843 or J3030 A/C service machine that has an external USB port and no identifier of its own, which means a shop facing the identification requirement does not have to replace a perfectly good service machine to meet it. It adds the missing capability to the equipment already in the bay. Used on its own it is equally straightforward: connect it to the vehicle, and it analyses what is in the A/C system and tells you whether the charge is good or bad before anything is recovered. Why identification stopped being optional Checking the charge before recovery is a requirement of R-1234yf service, not a refinement of it, and the reason is contamination. A modern service machine holds refrigerant internally and reuses it. Draw in a blended, counterfeit or cross-charged system and the contamination is no longer in one car — it is in the machine, and from there it goes into the next vehicle and the one after that. Identifying first means a bad charge is refused at the hose, which is the only point in the process where refusing it is cheap. There is a second reason that has nothing to do with equipment. Vehicles arrive having been topped up with whatever was to hand, including hydrocarbon blends sold as drop-in replacements. Knowing that before you connect a machine is the difference between a diagnosis and an incident. What it reads The analyzer covers the refrigerants a working shop actually meets. It reports the proportions of R-1234yf, R-134a, R-12, R-22 and hydrocarbons present in the sample, as percentages rather than a pass/fail light — so a marginal charge reads as a marginal charge and you can decide what to do about it. It also displays the percentage of air in pure R-1234yf and R-134a, which is the measurement that tells you whether a system has been opened, badly evacuated or is drawing in through a leak. R-12 testing is supported with the optional R-12 hose. A large colour display shows the result quickly and clearly, which sounds like a convenience and is actually a workflow point: the technician makes the next decision at the vehicle, with the result in front of them, rather than carrying an ambiguous reading back to the bench. Built for a workshop, not a laboratory The detail worth noticing on the specification is the improved oil resistance and the user-replaceable oil restrictor. Refrigerant analyzers fail for one boring, predictable reason: oil carried over from the vehicle's system gets into the sampling path and degrades it. Making the restrictor user-replaceable turns that from a service event into a part you change yourself, and it is the difference between an instrument that keeps working for years and one that quietly becomes unreliable and then gets left in a drawer. Perfect For Shops with a good A/C machine that has no identifier — the case this product is designed for, where the alternative is replacing the whole machine. Workshops taking on R-1234yf work, where checking the charge first is part of the required procedure. Independent shops seeing unknown vehicles that may have been topped up with anything. Fleet and municipal workshops that need to be sure of what goes into shared recovery equipment. Mobile A/C technicians who need an answer at the vehicle rather than back at the shop. What's in the Box The analyzer itself, with the connection for a USB-equipped service machine. The R-12 hose is an accessory rather than an inclusion, so if you expect to test R-12 systems, order it alongside the analyzer. Our data does not enumerate the rest of the carton contents, so we are not going to list items we cannot confirm — ask us before ordering if a specific hose, adaptor or case matters to you and we will check what ships in the current production run. Specifications Identifies R-1234yf, R-134a, R-12, R-22, hydrocarbons Also displays Percentage of air in pure R-1234yf and R-134a Readout Percentages, on a large colour display Machine connection Any SAE J2843 or J3030 A/C machine with an external USB port and no built-in identifier Standard Certified to SAE J2912 Serviceability User-replaceable oil restrictor; improved oil resistance Optional R-12 test hose Certification, stated exactly The product data makes one certification claim and this page makes the same one: the R-ID is certified to the SAE J2912 standard, which is the standard written for refrigerant identification equipment. That is a claim about how the instrument performs at its job. It is not a general equipment safety listing, and it does not replace the refrigerant-handling credentials your technicians are required to hold, or any approval a manufacturer's warranty programme may require for the shop as a whole. We are not adding any other mark to this page — if a dealer programme, an insurer or a contract requires documentation beyond SAE J2912, ask us and we will get the manufacturer's paperwork rather than let you assume it from this description. Shipping and Delivery This is instrumentation rather than a machine, so it travels as a package to the lower 48 states and does not need a dock or a forklift. Even so, open it and check it on arrival rather than shelving the box — a damaged analyzer is much easier to resolve in the days after delivery than the week you finally need it. If it arrives as part of a larger freight order with other equipment, inspect that shipment before signing and note any damage on the bill of lading while the driver is present. Warranty Covered by the manufacturer's warranty; the current terms are on our warranty claims page rather than summarised here. One thing specific to this instrument: do not open it or attempt to clean the sampling path beyond replacing the oil restrictor as the manufacturer intends. Sampling accuracy is the product, an opened instrument is routinely refused on a claim, and an analyzer that reads confidently but wrongly is worse than one that does not read at all.
