Robinair AC1234-4 Recover, Recycle and Recharge Machine for R-1234yf The AC1234-4 is the machine for a shop that wants full R-1234yf automation and does not want a tablet bolted to the front of it. Instead of a touchscreen it uses large analogue gauges — Ø 100 mm (3.9 in.) — alongside a 4.3-inch graphical LCD. That combination is a deliberate design choice and it earns its space: the gauges are readable from across the bay while the machine is working, they show system behaviour continuously rather than as a sampled number, and they carry on telling you something when the screen is showing a menu. Underneath, nothing is missing. Recovery is quoted at up to 98.5% with charge accuracy within ±0.5 oz, the service cycle is fully programmable, the refrigerant identifier is integrated, and the machine is specified for both standard and high-voltage hybrid or electric A/C systems. Fully automatic, or one function at a time Two modes matter in real work. A complete cycle can be programmed — recovery, vacuum, leak test and recharge — and left to run, which is how a busy bay uses the machine. Or individual functions can be run independently, which is how a diagnostic job uses it: sometimes you want an evacuation and nothing else, and a machine that insists on the full sequence wastes the technician's time and the refrigerant's. Around that sit the automations that remove interruptions rather than button presses. Automatic internal tank refill keeps the onboard supply topped up so a service does not stall halfway. Automatic air purge clears non-condensable gases from the internal tank without anybody operating a valve. Automatic oil drain measures what came out of the system and displays it, which turns the replacement quantity from an estimate into a measurement — and on a system where oil charge affects compressor life, that is not a small distinction. Programmable vacuum operation adapts the evacuation to the conditions instead of running a fixed timer, which matters on a humid day far more than on a dry one. The internal cylinder, and the number to plan against The machine carries a 30 lb DOT tank with 21 lb usable capacity. Those are two different figures for a reason and the second is the one to schedule around: 21 lb is the refrigerant actually available to charge with between refills, and a shop that plans against the tank's rated size will run short sooner than it expects. The oil bottle holds 355 ml (12 oz). Identification, and why it is built in The integrated refrigerant identifier samples the charge before recovery begins, and Robinair states it meets SAE J2927. The reason it is inside the machine rather than beside it is behavioural: a separate analyser is an extra connection and an extra step, and extra steps get skipped when the shop is busy. Built into the sequence, the check happens every time. Given that this machine holds and reuses refrigerant internally, a contaminated recovery does not spoil one job — it spoils the internal supply and every vehicle that follows. Hybrid and EV work, and the oil question The machine is specified to service both standard and high-voltage A/C systems, including hybrid and electric vehicles. The part that deserves attention is oil handling, because high-voltage compressors require a non-conductive oil and cross-contamination there is an electrical safety problem rather than a lubrication one. The AC1234-4 supports manual oil injection tools for PAG and POE oils — Robinair 18465 and 18470 — so the two oils can be kept properly separate. If you service hybrids and conventional vehicles on the same machine, order the injection tools with it and set the procedure before the first job rather than after. Flushing with refrigerant instead of chemicals Liquid refrigerant flushing cleans an A/C system or an individual component using refrigerant rather than a solvent. After a compressor failure has put metal through the lines, that is the difference between a repair that lasts and one that fails again in a season — and unlike a chemical flush there is no residue left in the system to react with the oil afterwards. Perfect For Independent shops moving into R-1234yf that want the automation without the interface learning curve. Workshops servicing hybrids and EVs alongside conventional vehicles, with the oil discipline that requires. Bays where the machine is watched while it works — the large gauges are genuinely more useful than a screen at a distance. Shops replacing an ageing R-134a-only machine and buying for the next decade of vehicles. Anyone who prefers fewer things to go wrong: no touchscreen is one less component in a dirty environment. What's in the Box The machine with its integrated identifier, internal 30 lb cylinder, 4.3-inch graphical LCD and the Ø 100 mm (3.9 in.) gauges, and its 355 ml (12 oz) oil bottle. The PAG and POE manual oil injection tools are separate accessories, not inclusions. Refrigerant is not supplied. Our data does not enumerate the hose and coupler set for the current production run, so ask us before ordering if that matters to your first job and we will confirm rather than guess. Both are refrigerant-handling performance standards — J2843 for R-1234yf recover, recycle and recharge equipment, J2927 for the refrigerant identification the machine performs. Neither is a general shop-equipment safety listing, and neither is a statement about who is permitted to operate the machine; the credentials your technicians need for refrigerant work are a separate requirement that sits with you. We are not going to add a third mark to this page from what machines of this class typically carry — if a dealer programme, an insurer or a customer contract requires documentation beyond these two, ask us before ordering and we will get it from the manufacturer in writing. Shipping and Delivery Shipped as freight to the lower 48 states rather than by parcel carrier. Decide how it comes off the truck before it is dispatched — a dock, a forklift, or a terminal collection booked with the carrier, which many shops find easier to fit around a working day. Residential delivery is available and carries a residential fee, quoted live at checkout because freight rates move. Inspect the crate with the driver present and note any damage on the bill of lading before you sign: the gauges and the internal scale are exactly the parts that suffer in a knock and exactly the parts that will not look damaged from the outside. Warranty The manufacturer's warranty covers the machine; the current terms live on our warranty claims page rather than in this description, so what you read is the document in force. Do not dismantle the unit before a claim has been raised and agreed — the scale, the identifier and the sealed refrigerant circuit are calibrated assemblies, and an opened machine is routinely declined. If a fault appears, record what the display and the gauges were showing, take it out of service, and contact us with that detail in hand.
