Ranger Wheel Protection Kit for R980 Series Tire Changers This kit is sold against a machine series, not against a wheel size, and that is the important thing to get right before you order. It is the protection set for Ranger R980 series tire changers — the covers, inserts and slides are shaped to the mounting points on those machines, so a kit bought for a different series will not simply bolt on and do the job. What it protects against is the most expensive routine mistake in a tyre bay: marking a customer’s wheel during a change that otherwise went perfectly. Why a protection kit is machine-specific Every part in this kit interfaces with a piece of the changer. The roller inserts sit in the roller assembly. The slides fit the underside of the duck head. The clamp covers wrap the turntable jaws. The blade covers go over the bead breaker. Each of those is a shaped part matched to a shaped fitting, and the fittings differ between machine families. A cover that is close but not right is worse than no cover, because it moves under load and then either falls off mid-change or takes the wheel with it. So the series designation on this listing is doing real work. Check the model plate on your machine before ordering rather than going from memory or from what the shop calls it, and if the plate is worn or the machine came second-hand, send us a photograph and we will identify it for you. That takes a minute and removes the only real risk in this purchase. A wheel is worth more than the kit, every single time The economics here are not subtle. One marked alloy on a late-model car — the kind of mark that shows on a machined face under a showroom light — costs more to put right than a protection kit costs to buy, and that is before the conversation with the customer, the courtesy car, or the review. A shop that fits alloy wheels daily is running an uninsured exposure every time a bare steel jaw touches a rim. The kit converts that into a consumable. Protectors take the abrasion instead of the wheel, they cost a fraction of a rim, and when they wear you replace them. That is the whole argument, and for a shop specialising in delicate alloy or painted wheels it is not really optional. Four contact points, covered together What makes this a kit rather than a spare part is that it addresses every place the machine touches the wheel at once. Protecting one contact point and leaving the others bare gives you a false sense of security — the wheel still gets marked, just somewhere else. Buying the covers as a set means the machine is protected as a system, and it means the replacement cycle stays in step across all four points rather than drifting so that one component is always the worn one. Perfect For Tyre shops running an R980 series changer that handle alloy wheels as ordinary daily work. Performance and custom wheel specialists, where finishes are expensive and customers inspect closely. Dealership service departments, where a marked wheel on a new car becomes a warranty conversation. Any shop replacing worn protectors — these are consumable parts and this is the replenishment set. What you receive Four turntable clamp covers Three duck head underside slides Three roller replacement inserts Two bead breaker blade covers That is the complete published contents. No tools, no adhesives and no machine parts beyond the protectors themselves are listed as included. Before you order Confirm the series on your machine’s model plate. If you run more than one changer in the shop, confirm each of them separately — mixed-series bays are common and a kit that fits one machine will not necessarily fit the one beside it. If there is any doubt at all, ask us first; we would much rather answer the question than process a return. Certification, stated plainly The manufacturer data we hold for this kit carries no independent laboratory listing or third-party approval mark, and we are not going to suggest otherwise. For a set of wear protectors that is entirely normal. It only becomes relevant if you are buying under a purchasing specification that requires documented approval for consumable parts, which some fleet and municipal workshops do. If that describes you, tell us before ordering and we will ask the manufacturer for documentation instead of guessing what exists. Shipping and delivery We ship this within the contiguous United States, free of charge. If collection suits you better, the pickup points for this brand are named in the Pick Up and Delivery section on this page. Should your order travel by freight rather than parcel, someone must be present to receive it and you need a way to take it off the truck, or you can collect from the carrier’s terminal. Residential delivery is charged separately and the fee is shown at checkout. Look the package over before you sign, and record any damage on the delivery receipt while the driver is still with you — a clean signature is what makes a claim afterwards so difficult. Warranty Ranger publishes one warranty document covering its product line rather than a term specific to each part, and we hold the current copy. No period is quoted in this description because the fact sheet for this kit does not state one, and we would rather leave a gap than invent a figure that becomes a dispute later. Ask us for the document and we will send it before you buy. Bear in mind that protectors are wear parts by design, and normal wear is not usually a warranty matter. If a component is faulty out of the box, keep it and the packaging and contact us — do not modify or trim a part to make it fit, because a part that has been altered will not be considered.
