Ranger Wheel Protection Kit for R23 and R26 Series A tire changer touches a wheel in four separate places, and each of them damages it differently. This kit exists because covering one of those places and ignoring the rest still hands the customer a marked rim. It is the protection set for Ranger R23 and R26 series machines, and the sections below walk through each contact point in turn — what it does, and what the protector fitted there is actually preventing. The turntable clamps: the damage nobody sees until later The jaws that hold the wheel down grip it with real force, and they grip it on the rim edge or the bead seat depending on how the wheel is mounted. Bare steel jaws under clamping load will bite into a painted or powder-coated rim, and the marks land in a place that is often invisible on the machine and perfectly visible once the wheel is back on the car and the customer is crouched beside it. Clamp covers put a sacrificial layer between the jaw and the rim. Because the clamps are the component under sustained load rather than passing contact, they are also the covers that see the hardest life, which is why the kit supplies more of them than of anything else. The duck head: the classic arc-shaped scuff The mount/demount head rides on the rim edge as the turntable rotates, and the underside of that head is the part in contact. If it is bare, the mark it leaves is unmistakable — a smooth arc following the rim lip, sometimes all the way round. Anyone who has worked in a tyre bay can identify that scuff on sight, and so can anybody who has been shown one by an unhappy owner. The underside slides in this kit cover exactly that face. They are a small part and they prevent the single most recognisable form of tyre-machine damage there is. The bead breaker blade: force in one concentrated line Breaking a bead applies a lot of load through a narrow blade, and it applies it against the rim flange. That combination — high force, small area, painted surface — is how a blade leaves a dent or a gouge rather than a scuff. On a soft alloy the mark can be structural in appearance even when it is only cosmetic, which makes it an uncomfortable conversation either way. Blade covers spread and cushion that contact. The kit includes covers for both blade faces, since the shoe works against the wheel from either side depending on the job. The rollers: continuous contact, cumulative wear Roller assemblies work against the tyre and the rim through the mounting cycle, and their inserts are consumables in the truest sense: they are designed to wear so that the rim does not. A worn insert is not a cosmetic issue on the machine, it is a countdown to the metal underneath making contact. The replacement inserts in this kit are how you reset that. Fitment: R23 and R26 series machines The parts are shaped to the fittings on the R23 and R26 series. Check the model plate on your changer before ordering rather than trusting memory — a protector that nearly fits is worse than none, because it shifts under load and can end up between the jaw and the rim rather than around the jaw. If the plate is unreadable or the machine came to you second-hand, send us a photo of it and we will identify the series for you. Perfect For Shops handling alloy, polished and painted wheels as routine work rather than as an occasional special. Independent tyre bays where a single damaged rim wipes out the margin on a week of fittings. Workshops training new technicians, where protectors buy tolerance while technique is still developing. Any R23 or R26 owner whose existing protectors have worn through. Contents The kit supplies covers for four turntable clamps, slides for three duck head undersides, three roller replacement inserts and two bead breaker blade covers. That is the full published contents — no tools, no fixings and no machine components are included beyond the protectors themselves. Certification, stated plainly There is no independent laboratory listing or third-party approval in the manufacturer data we hold for this kit, and we will not imply one. That is ordinary for wear protectors. It matters only if you buy against a specification that requires documented approval for consumables — some fleet, municipal and contract workshops do. If that is your situation, raise it with us before ordering and we will go to the manufacturer for the paperwork rather than guess at it. Shipping and delivery Delivery is available across the contiguous United States, priced at checkout from live carrier rates instead of quoted in this text, since carrier pricing does not stay still. Collection is an option as well — the pickup locations for this brand appear in the Pick Up and Delivery section of this page. If the order moves as freight rather than parcel, arrange for somebody to receive it and for a means of unloading, or take terminal collection instead. A residential delivery is a separate service with its own fee, quoted at checkout. Examine the packaging before signing and note any damage on the delivery receipt at the time; a receipt signed clean is extremely hard to challenge later. Warranty This item falls under Ranger’s single product-line warranty document rather than a term of its own, and we keep the current version on file. We have not printed a duration because the fact sheet does not state one, and a guessed warranty period helps nobody. Request the document and we will send it before you commit. Do remember that protectors are designed to wear, so ordinary wear-through is not a fault. If a part is defective on arrival, keep it and its packaging and speak to us first. Do not cut, heat or otherwise modify a component to make it seat — an altered part cannot be assessed.
