One double-sided cone instead of a rack of them — 4.75″ to 6.75″ on a 40 mm shaft Truck wheels are the reason a car balancer sits idle. The hub bores are larger, they vary a lot between makes, and the usual answer is a shelf of individual cones, one of which is always the one somebody has walked off with. This kit is built the other way round: the centring cone is double-sided, so a single component covers hub sizes from 4.75″ to 6.75″ depending on which face you present to the wheel. That range is what takes in the majority of medium and heavy-duty truck wheels in service, and it is the whole reason to buy a kit rather than accumulating cones one job at a time. The kit is supplied with its backing plate and spacer set, and it mounts on a 40 mm balancer shaft. Will It Fit? There is one hard compatibility gate on this product and one soft one. Check both before ordering — a cone kit is easy to buy for the wrong machine. Shaft diameter — the hard gate. This kit fits a 40 mm shaft, and only that. Balancer shafts are made in several diameters, they are not interchangeable, and no adapter makes them so — measure the shaft on your machine, or check its model documentation, rather than assuming yours matches. If you are unsure, send us your balancer's model and we will confirm it against the kit before you order. Hub bore — the soft gate. The cone centres hubs between 4.75″ and 6.75″. Most medium and heavy-duty truck wheels fall inside that window, but not all of them do — measure the bores you actually see in your bay, particularly on anything older, imported or aftermarket. Confirming the shaft size and the hub range against your own machine and your own wheels is the buyer's responsibility, and it takes a tape measure and two minutes. We would much rather have that conversation before the order than process a return afterwards. Why centring is the whole job A balancer measures where the mass sits relative to the axis it is spinning on. If the wheel is not truly centred on the shaft, the machine measures the mounting error rather than the wheel's imbalance, and it does so perfectly repeatably — which is the trap. You get a confident reading, you fit the weights it asks for, and the truck comes back next week with the same vibration. The technician then blames the balancer, or the tyre, or the driver. On a truck wheel the consequences are magnified simply by mass. A large, heavy wheel turns a small centring error into a large apparent imbalance, so more weight goes on, further from where it should be. Good cones and a proper backing plate are not an accessory to the balancer — on truck work they are the part of the system that decides whether the reading means anything. This kit is specified to give centring and fitment coverage across both original-equipment and aftermarket applications, which is the practical requirement in a bay that sees mixed fleets rather than one manufacturer's vehicles. Perfect For Commercial tyre shops adding truck work to a bay that is already balancing cars. Fleet and municipal workshops maintaining their own trucks, where the wheels are varied and the balancer has to cope with all of them. Mobile truck tyre services that need one compact kit to cover the range rather than a crate of cones. Any shop replacing a lost or damaged cone — this is the kit that restores full truck capability rather than patching one size. What's in the Box The description on file covers the cone and backing plate kit as a set, supplied as a spacer kit for a 40 mm shaft. It does not itemise the individual pieces beyond that, and we are not going to invent a component list to make the page look fuller — no balancer, no shaft, no wheel-lift and no weights are included. If you need the exact piece count confirmed before you order, ask us and we will check it against the factory sheet. Tooling of this kind is rarely the subject of an independent listing, but if your workshop accreditation or a fleet contract specifies approved equipment, treat the question as unanswered and verify it against the manufacturer's documentation before you commit — ask us and we will put it to Ranger in writing. The practical safety point on this product is different anyway: a cone that does not properly seat a heavy truck wheel on a spinning shaft is a hazard as well as a bad measurement. Seat the wheel, check it is running true before you spin up, and never stand in the plane of a rotating wheel. Shipping and delivery Shipping is calculated live at checkout for your address, so you see the real cost before you commit. A kit this size normally ships as a parcel; if it travels with larger items on the same order it may be routed to a freight carrier instead, and freight arrives kerbside — you need to be able to receive it off the truck, or you can collect from the carrier's local terminal. Deliveries to a residential address carry an additional residential fee, applied once per brand on an order rather than per item. Check the packaging before you sign and record any damage on the delivery paperwork at the time, because a clean signature is very hard to argue with afterwards. We ship within the contiguous United States. Warranty Ranger publishes a single warranty document covering its product line and we hold a copy. No term is stated on this page because the data on file does not give one, and a warranty period invented for a listing helps nobody — ask us and we will send you the current document before you order. If a cone arrives damaged or out of true, photograph it and contact us before machining, grinding or otherwise modifying it: a modified part is outside any claim, and on a centring component even a light dressing changes the thing you bought it for.
