Ranger Silver Tape Adhesive Steel Wheel Weights Silver is the finish that matches the wheel most cars actually leave the factory on: bright alloy, machined face, polished lip, painted silver. Fitting a silver segmented steel tape weight to those wheels means the correction sits on the inner barrel looking like it belongs there rather than announcing itself. This roll is that weight — coated steel, segmented on a Quick-Peel liner, 700 pieces to a carton. The rest of this page is about the two decisions that come before mass: whether a stick-on tape is the right format for the wheel in front of you, and whether it will still be attached in six months. Tape or clip? Getting the format right first A clip-on weight needs a flange to grip. Plenty of modern wheels do not offer one worth gripping — a wide machined face, a clinched or shrouded rim edge, an aftermarket alloy where a clip would be both visible and unwelcome. On those wheels a stick-on tape is not a compromise, it is the correct answer, because the balance correction can be placed on the inner barrel where the geometry actually wants it and where nobody will ever see it. Conversely, a plain steel wheel with an exposed, uncoated flange is clip-on territory, and using tape there is spending a consumable to solve a problem you did not have. Knowing which you are looking at before the wheel goes on the balancer is what keeps a stock of both formats sensible. What "segmented" buys you at the balancer The strip is divided into .25 oz segments, and the liner is segmented to match. When the machine calls a correction, you tear at the segment that meets it instead of reaching for the nearest fixed size and living with the rounding. Two things improve. Less total mass ends up bonded to the wheel, and the residual imbalance after the correction is smaller, because you were able to be closer to what the machine asked for. That precision is worth more on light alloy wheels and on high-speed applications, where a small residual is felt through the steering wheel at motorway speed rather than absorbed and forgotten. Adhesion is the failure mode Every stick-on weight that has ever failed has failed at the bond, not at the steel. Ranger describes the adhesive on these strips as extra-sticky, and says plainly what that is for: it lessens the chance of a weight falling off the wheel. That is the right way to think about it — an adhesive specification is a risk reduction, not a guarantee, and the rest of the risk sits with preparation. So treat the landing area as part of the job. It needs to be clean, dry and free of old adhesive, brake dust and wheel-cleaner residue, and the wheel wants to be at a workable temperature rather than freezing when the strip goes on. Press the full length of the strip down rather than tacking the ends. A weight fitted properly stays put; a weight fitted onto a contaminated barrel comes back as a vibration complaint, and the customer will blame the balance, not the surface prep. Coated steel, and what the coating protects The strip is powder-coated rather than bare. The coating is what keeps the steel from corroding against a painted or clear-coated barrel, and it is why a weight removed a year later does not leave a rust shadow behind it. The manufacturer states that the finish helps eliminate corrosion and staining of expensive wheels, and that the weights are corrosion resistant in service. The physical profile is narrow and low, contoured to follow the shapes an original-equipment wheel is made in, and mounted out of sight it does nothing to the appearance of the wheel. Low profile also matters mechanically where a caliper or brake component runs close to the inner barrel, which is common on larger brake packages. Fitment: the width to check The tape runs 1/2" (13 mm) wide. That is the dimension to hold against the flat landing band inside the barrel on the wheels you see most often. Where the barrel is narrow or heavily stepped, a wide strip cannot lie flat across its whole length, and a strip that bridges rather than beds is a strip that will lift at one end. Checking this on your own vehicle mix is the buyer’s call, and it takes about a minute with a wheel off. One roll instead of a weight rack The carton dispenses: a Free-Glide centre hub and a nylon feeder pay the tape out smoothly and jam-free right down to the end of the roll. Practically, that replaces a rack of individually stocked sizes with one part number, one carton and a much smaller footprint on the bench — the manufacturer cites reduced inventory cost and less floor space as design goals, and in a small shop both are real. Perfect For General repair shops that balance wheels alongside everything else and want one consumable rather than a weight drawer. Tyre retailers and wheel specialists working mostly on bright and machined alloys, where a silver weight is the finish match. Dealership and fleet workshops operating a lead-free purchasing policy on consumables. Mobile fitters, for whom the dispensing carton is the only weight storage in the van. What you receive A single roll of silver tape adhesive steel wheel weights, 700 pieces per roll, supplied in the self-dispensing carton. Segments are .25 oz. Roll weight is 11 lbs. (5 kg). Nothing else is listed as included — no applicator, no hammer, no surface preparation product — so if you want a cleaning solvent or a wheel-weight tool alongside it, add them deliberately. (5 kg) Certification, stated plainly Ranger states that these weights meet national environmental laws and health and safety codes, and that is the manufacturer’s claim rather than ours. Beyond it, the data we hold carries no independent laboratory listing and no third-party approval mark, and we will not imply that one exists. If your shop is buying against a specification that demands documented approval, tell us before you order and we will ask the manufacturer for the paperwork instead of guessing at its contents. Shipping and delivery Orders go out to the contiguous United States. This item ships free, so there is nothing to add at checkout. If collecting suits you better, the pickup locations for this brand are listed in the Pick Up and Delivery section on this page. Should the shipment travel as freight rather than parcel, you will need somebody available to receive it and a means of getting it down from the truck, or you can take terminal collection instead. Residential delivery carries its own fee, quoted at checkout. Look the carton over before signing — write any crushing, tearing or shortage onto the delivery receipt at the time, because a clean signature is what makes a later claim almost impossible. Warranty Warranty for this item falls under Ranger’s single product-line warranty document rather than a term specific to the roll, and we hold the current version. No duration is printed here on purpose: the fact sheet does not state one, and a guessed warranty period is exactly the kind of number that turns into a dispute. Request the document from us and we will send it before you buy. If something is wrong with a roll, keep the carton and the batch label and speak to us first. Do not dismantle, re-spool or modify the product to work out what happened — investigating it yourself before the claim is opened is the most reliable way to have it refused.
