Ranger RWS-3TC Manual Tire Changer: Nothing on It Needs Power Read the published specification for the RWS-3TC and note what is absent from it. There is no motor rating. There is no air pressure requirement, no cylinder, no electrical supply, no duty cycle. What the specification describes is a wheel plate, a base and a set of levers — the machine's entire energy budget is the person standing at it. That is the case for owning one, and it is a genuinely different case from the one a powered changer makes. Because of it, the RWS-3TC works in places a powered changer simply cannot go: a garage with no compressor, a trailer at a race meeting, a farm workshop at the end of a long extension lead, a mobile service van. It performs both operations a wheel needs — breaking the bead and mounting or demounting the tire — on a base measuring 15" x 18" (381 mm x 457 mm), at 40 lbs. (18 kg). Bead breaking is the job people underestimate Most home attempts at a tire change fail at the first step, not the last. A bead that has been seated for years is effectively glued to the rim by corrosion and time, and the improvised methods — driving over it, standing on it, levering against a kerb — are how rims get bent and how people get hurt. A changer with a purpose-built bead breaker applies force where the tire meets the rim flange, in line, with the wheel held still. That single function is worth the purchase on its own for anyone who has fought a stuck bead with a pry bar. Mounting is the same principle in reverse: the wheel is captive on the plate, so both hands and the full length of the bar are available to work the bead over the flange instead of holding the wheel down. Reading the capacity line honestly This is the one place where our sources phrase things two different ways, so here are both. Ranger spec table Tire capacity 8" to 7.5" x 16" (203 mm to 191 mm x 406 mm) Product spec fields for the same model Maximum tire diameter 16", maximum wheel width 8" Both sources agree on Wheel plate diameter 7.5" (191 mm) The spec table's line is doing double duty — 7.5" appears in it and is also the wheel plate figure — and we are not going to guess which reading the factory intends. Neither source describes a machine for heavy truck wheels or for large-diameter alloys; both describe a changer aimed at smaller wheels, which is consistent with the copy supplied with it, and that copy also puts light trucks in scope. If the wheel you need to service sits anywhere near any of these limits, send us the wheel and tire size before you order and we will confirm it against the current factory documentation. Footprint, mounting and moving it The base is 15" x 18" (381 mm x 457 mm) — smaller than the floor space most people imagine a tire changer needs, which is why this one gets bolted to a bench end, a steel plate or a workshop floor rather than being given a bay of its own. Fastened down is how it works best: manual changing is all about leverage, and leverage against a machine that can shift is leverage lost. At 40 lbs. (18 kg) it is also genuinely portable by one person, and it ships in a 38" x 9" x 9" (965 mm x 229 mm x 229 mm) carton. A common arrangement is to bolt it to a portable steel plate: heavy enough to stand on while working, light enough to lift into a truck bed. The construction is heavy steel throughout, which is what makes both of those things true at once — it is dense rather than bulky. Perfect for Home garages with no compressor, where a set of seasonal tires would otherwise mean four trips to a shop. Track days and race trailers — tire work at the event, with no power at the paddock. Farm, fleet and grounds workshops, where small wheels come off trailers and utility vehicles constantly. Tire shops needing a backup or an outdoor station that does not tie up the powered machine. Mobile service, since nothing about the machine needs a supply at the far end. What is in the box Ranger publishes a feature list for the RWS-3TC rather than a packing list, so we are not going to state a bar count or name the mounting hardware as though it were confirmed. What the published material does state is the machine's function — mounting and bead breaking — and its heavy steel construction. Ask us before ordering if a particular accessory or a protective insert matters to you, and we will check the current factory documentation rather than guess. The distinction matters in a commercial setting: a listing issued by an independent North American test house follows testing carried out by that test house, and it is a different document from a manufacturer's own declaration about its own machine. If your insurer, your workplace policy or a local requirement calls for listed equipment, establish the exact wording before purchase — and ask us, because it is a much cheaper conversation before delivery than after. Shipping and delivery Shipping covers the contiguous United States, the lower 48. This item ships free, so there is nothing to add at checkout. If the changer travels as freight instead of a parcel, look the carton over before you sign and write any damage onto the bill of lading in front of the driver — that record is what a claim rests on. Delivery to a residential address is a separate service from a commercial dock and carries a residential fee where it applies. Collection from our warehouse is an option; the locations are listed further down this page. Warranty This machine is covered by the warranty document Ranger publishes across its product line. Our data holds the document itself rather than a summary, so we will not quote a duration here — ask us for the current copy before ordering if the terms bear on your decision. Separately, and whatever those terms say: do not weld extensions onto the bar sockets or the bead breaker, and do not modify the base to suit a bench. Manual changing puts high, uneven loads into exactly those parts, and a home-made repair to them is both an ended warranty and a poor thing to be standing over.
