Ranger RJS-2TH Tripod Jack Stand The specific thing this stand does, and the reason a transmission shop buys a pair, is described in the copy Ranger publishes for it: with a pair placed under a lifted vehicle, you can lower a four-post lift until the vehicle's weight is resting on the stands, between the runways, and then work. The lift comes out of the load path. What you are left with is a vehicle standing on two tripods with all four wheels and the entire underside open. The RJS-2TH is rated to hold up to 2 tons per stand — a published holding capacity of 4,000 lbs. (1,814 kg) — and adjusts by hardened ACME screw between 55" and 87" (1,397 mm and 2,210 mm). Why a tripod, specifically Three feet define a plane, and that is not a geometry lesson, it is the reason this shape is used for anything that has to stand still on a real floor. A three-point base sits flat on a surface that is not perfectly level — a worn shop floor, a slight fall to a drain, a patch of old repair — without rocking. A four-point base on the same floor will always sit on three of its feet and rock onto the fourth under load, and that rock is movement in a support that must not move. The base measures 24" x 24" (609 mm x 609 mm), which spreads the load over a wide footprint and puts the tipping point a long way from the column. The taller a support stand gets, the more that footprint matters, and this is a stand that can reach 87" (2,210 mm). Where it earns its money: when the centre of gravity moves This is the case the current copy makes and it is worth spelling out, because it is the real argument. A vehicle's balance on a lift is calculated with the vehicle intact. Start removing a gearbox, an engine or a differential and that balance changes while the vehicle is still in the air — sometimes considerably, and always in the direction of the component you have just unbolted. Relying on the lift's arms and pads alone through that transition is exactly the moment technicians describe as feeling wrong. A pair of tripod stands takes that shift. Placed under solid structure before the heavy component comes out, they hold the vehicle steady as its weight redistributes, and heavy-duty rubber stabilisation pads keep the contact points still and unmarked. That is what makes engine swaps, transmission service and wheel work routine rather than nervous, and it is why shops that own a pair of these will quote for jobs that shops without them turn away. Will It Fit? What to check Figure Why it matters Lowered height 55" (1,397 mm) The stand will not go under anything lower — this is a lifted-vehicle tool Maximum height 87" (2,210 mm) The working height it can reach; check it against your lift's usable range Base 24" x 24" (609 mm x 609 mm) Floor space needed between four-post runways or two-post columns Holding capacity 4,000 lbs. (1,814 kg) per stand Compare against the load one stand will actually take, not the vehicle total Weight 40 lbs. (16 kg) A one-person carry, so it gets used rather than left in the corner Shipping carton 47" x 8" x 3" (1,194 mm x 203 mm x 76 mm) Long and narrow — check the receiving door and where it will be stored The lowered figure of 55" (1,397 mm) is the one that decides whether this stand suits your shop at all: it is designed to go under a raised vehicle and it will not fit under a car on the floor. And two responsibilities remain yours. The floor must be sound, level concrete, because a screw stand puts its whole load through a small area. And the vehicle must be positioned so the stands meet solid structure, not a floor pan or a plastic undertray. A note on the published specification: the base is listed under a heading that reads "diameter" but is given as 24" x 24", which is a square footprint rather than a circle. We have quoted the figures exactly as published and mention the labelling so nobody plans a space around the wrong shape. The screw, the handle and the pad Height is set by a hardened ACME screw turned by a quick-adjust spin handle running on a thrust bearing. The ACME form is a coarse, square-shouldered thread that carries load along its flanks instead of wedging, and holds its setting under the vibration of an impact gun working overhead. The thrust bearing is what lets the handle be turned by hand with weight already on the pad — without one, fine adjustment under load stops being a one-person job. On top, a thick adjustable rubber pad spreads the contact and grips, so the stand is not pressing bare steel into a chassis rail and the contact point cannot creep as the load changes. Its adjustability is what lets you meet an underside that is rarely flat and almost never square to the floor. Perfect For Transmission specialists — the discipline this stand was designed around. Engine and drivetrain shops removing heavy assemblies from a vehicle that stays in the air. Four-post lift owners wanting the wheels free for brake, suspension or wheel service without a separate rolling jack. General repair shops looking to take on the jobs that non-specialist shops decline. What's in the Box The RJS-2TH tripod jack stand, with its hardened ACME screw, quick-adjust spin handle, thrust bearing and adjustable rubber pad fitted. This listing is for a single stand — the technique described above needs a pair, so check your quantity before checking out. The manual and specification sheet for this stand are available in the documents linked from this page. Safety certification, said honestly The data behind this listing makes no third-party safety-listing or load-test claim for this stand, and we will not write one onto the page. This is the product category where that omission deserves to be stated rather than glossed: vehicle support equipment is precisely what an insurer, a fleet contract or a local jurisdiction is most likely to require accredited documentation for. If you are subject to such a requirement, ask us before you order and we will find out exactly what Ranger can supply for this model. Alongside that, the ordinary rules apply and they are not optional: inspect the screw, base and pad before every use, set the stands on solid structure, never exceed the published holding capacity, and retire any stand with a damaged thread or a bent leg. Shipping and delivery This item ships free within the lower 48 states, so there is nothing to add at checkout. Long items commonly travel as freight: the carrier will call to agree a window, someone at the address must be able to unload, and you can collect from the freight terminal instead if that is easier. Residential deliveries carry a residential fee. Check the shipment against the paperwork before signing and write any damage onto the delivery receipt while the driver is present. Collection from the pickup locations shown further down this page is available too. Warranty Ranger publishes a written product warranty and we will send you the applicable document on request. No term appears in the data behind this listing, so this page does not state one; ask us and we will confirm it in writing. With load-bearing equipment there is one rule we will not soften: if the screw, base or column is damaged or deformed, take the stand out of service and talk to us. Do not heat it, weld it or straighten it. A repaired jack stand is neither a warranty item nor a safe one.
