Ranger RFJ-3TP: the 6,000 lbs jack whose own maker tells you it is not a low-profile model Product pages rarely admit a limitation. Ranger's does here, and it is the most useful sentence on the page: the RFJ-3TP is not one of the super-low-profile jacks. Its collapsed height is 5.25" (133 mm), which will not slide under a slammed coupe — and in exchange it lifts 6,000 lbs (3 tons) to 19.25" (489 mm) from a chassis you can still pick up. If your vehicles are sedans, crossovers, SUVs and light trucks sitting at factory ride height, that trade is the right way round, and knowing it before you order is worth more than a page that tells you what you want to hear. Ranger also states that this jack exceeds ANSI standards in performance and safety — the acknowledged standards vocabulary for portable automotive lifting equipment in North America, and a claim the maker publishes for this model rather than something we have inferred. Will It Fit Under Your Vehicle? This is the section to read twice, because clearance is the one place this jack has a boundary. Collapsed height 5.25" (133 mm). Measure the clearance at the jacking point of the lowest vehicle you own. If that number is smaller, this is the wrong jack and we would rather tell you now — ask us and we will point you at a lower-entry model instead. Lift height 19.25" (489 mm). Ranger describes it as just over 19 inches, and on a vehicle at standard ride height that is enough to get a wheel well clear and place stands comfortably. Footprint: 26" (660 mm) of chassis length, 10.75" (273 mm) across the front and 13.5" (343 mm) at the rear. The wider rear track is where stability under load comes from. Floor: flat, solid, level, and able to carry both the vehicle and the jack. The jack rolls in as it lifts, so a surface that grabs the casters is a surface that pushes the car instead of raising it. That assessment is the owner's responsibility on the day. Power to weight is the actual selling point At 84 lbs. (38 kg) shipped, this is a jack rated for 6,000 lbs. that one technician can reposition without help, and that ratio is why it turns up in professional bays and home garages alike. The structure earns it: heavy-gauge steel through the frame, a welded lift arm assembly rather than a bolted one, and an alloy-plated ram. Welding the arm removes the fasteners that work loose over thousands of cycles, and plating the ram protects the surface the seals ride against, which is where a neglected jack starts to leak. Swivel casters carry it across a bay under its own weight, so a heavy tool moves with a push rather than a lift. A gear-driven twist release, and why it feels different Lowering is done by twisting the handle, which turns a small gear that opens a pressure valve. The mechanical advantage in that gear is what gives the control its feel: the pressure comes off gradually and in proportion to how far you turn, so a vehicle settles rather than drops. There is no separate lever to reach for and no sudden release point to learn. Behind that, sealed hydraulics keep contamination out of the circuit — the reason a jack of this type asks for very little maintenance across its life — and a built-in safety overload system stops an attempt to lift past the rating before it becomes a structural problem. None of that is a substitute for stands. Lift the vehicle, put rated stands under the manufacturer's support points, lower it onto them, and only then go underneath. Perfect For General repair shops working on ordinary cars and light trucks, where capacity and durability matter more than entry clearance. Home garages that want commercial-grade construction without a commercial-grade jack's weight. SUV and pickup owners, since 6,000 lbs. of rating leaves genuine margin above a half-ton truck's corner load. Fleet maintenance where several people share one tool and simple, obvious controls prevent mistakes. It is not for lowered or track-prepared cars. That is the same limitation stated at the top, repeated because it is the one that leads to a return. What's in the Box An assembled jack with its handle. Stands, chocks and adapters are not part of Ranger's listed contents for this model. Ranger's own guidance is explicit and we will repeat it: always set jack stands rated for your vehicle's weight under the car after jacking it up. Specifications Lifting capacity 6,000 lbs. What our data does not contain is an independent laboratory's listing certificate for the unit. If you are buying into a workplace where a written third-party certificate is a condition of use — some insurers and safety programmes require exactly that, over and above a maker's declaration — ask us before ordering and we will request the documentation from Ranger rather than assume it exists. Shipping and delivery We deliver to the lower 48 states and quote the freight live at checkout against your address, so the price you see is current. Residential addresses carry a residential fee, displayed before payment. Pickup at the Ranger locations shown on this page is available if you prefer to collect. Examine the packaging before signing for it. Any damage — crushed corners, tears, oil staining — belongs on the delivery note at the time of delivery, since an unqualified signature is how carriers record an intact delivery. Photograph it and contact us the same day and we will handle the claim. Warranty and service Ranger's warranty document for this jack is linked on this page and is the governing text; we do not summarise it here because summaries are what disputes are built on. Practical advice while it is in service: do not open the hydraulic unit yourself before a claim. A sealed assembly that has been disassembled generally loses its coverage, and the faults that prompt people to try — a jack that will not hold height, one that lifts slowly, one weeping fluid — are the faults the warranty is there for.
