Ranger RD-9G Upright Portable Oil Drain The thing that separates a good portable oil drain from a bad one is knowing how full it is. The Ranger RD-9G has a translucent polyethylene tank, so the fluid level is something a technician reads from across the bay rather than something they discover when it comes back up the funnel. That single design choice is why this drain suits a bay that is genuinely busy: nobody has to lift a lid, tip it, or guess. It is a 9-gallon upright drain on four casters, with a telescoping tube that adjusts from 32" to 64" and an 18" funnel carrying a contamination screen. It is built for the routine work a service bay does all day — engine oil, gear oil, transmission fluid, coolant drains — in a shop that changes fluids often enough to care about the process but does not need a bulk evacuation system. The screen in the funnel is the part that saves you a callback The funnel on the RD-9G carries a built-in contamination screen. It is a small feature with a disproportionate payoff. Everything that falls out of a drain plug hole ends up in that funnel: the plug itself, its crush washer, the odd filter gasket, a broken clip. Without a screen, those parts go into the tank, and from there into your waste-oil container, where you will never see them again. With a screen, they sit on top where the technician can see them. If you have ever had a car go back on the lift because the drain plug went down with the oil, you already understand what that is worth. The screen also keeps the pour path clear. When the tank is emptied through the easy-pour spout, an unobstructed fluid path is the difference between a controlled pour and a mess on the floor. Height range, and what it actually reaches The tube telescopes from 32" up to 64" (813 mm to 1,626 mm). The low end matters as much as the high end. At 32" the drain slides under a car that is only a little way up — on a mid-rise, on ramps, or on a two-post that has just cleared the tyres — which is the position most oil changes are actually done in. At 64" it reaches up under a raised pickup or a van on a four-post, where a low drain simply cannot get the funnel near the sump. The tube is described as non-corrosive, which is the right specification for a part that spends its working life with hot used oil running down it. A telescoping section that corrodes is a telescoping section that stops telescoping. Moving it, filling it, emptying it The drain rides on four swivel, ball-bearing casters, so it turns in place instead of being dragged sideways across a floor. Built-in hand grips give you somewhere sensible to hold it, and the wide body keeps the centre of gravity where you want it once there is fluid in the tank. Empty, the unit is light — the fact sheet gives a shipping weight of 14 lbs. (6 kg) — which is worth knowing if it has to be lifted into a service van or carried between bays. The tank body is polyethylene, and the published feature list describes the construction as resisting dents, rust and corrosion. A steel drain clipped by a lift arm carries that dent for the rest of its life; a moulded tank generally does not. The clamp holding the funnel assembly is heavy-duty stainless steel, which is sensible, because that joint is the one most likely to be worked loose and re-tightened over the years. Will it fit your bay? Two numbers decide this. The first is the height range, 32" to 64", measured on the telescoping tube — check it against the height your lift or ramps actually put the sump at, not against the maximum height your lift can reach. The second is the funnel: 18" (457 mm) across, which is generous, but it still has to fit between a crossmember and a subframe on some vehicles. The unit ships in a carton measuring 18" x 16" x 23" (457 mm x 406 mm x 597 mm), which also gives you a fair idea of the footprint it will occupy in a corner. Confirming clearances, storage space and working height in your own bay is the buyer’s responsibility — we have published every dimension the manufacturer gives us so that check happens before you order rather than after. Perfect For Independent service shops running one or two bays, where a 9-gallon tank is emptied often enough to stay manageable but holds enough not to interrupt a job. Mobile and fleet technicians who need a drain that goes in the van — the low empty weight and the casters both matter here. Home and enthusiast garages with a lift or ramps, where the alternative is a shallow pan and a steady hand. Dealership prep and reconditioning, where several cars a day get a fluid service and the screen catches the hardware. What you receive The drain arrives as an assembly: the translucent polyethylene tank on its four casters, the telescoping tube with its stainless steel clamp, and the rugged funnel with the contamination screen fitted. The published feature list does not include a hand pump, a hose kit, a waste-oil container or any fluid, so do not plan around them. If you need an evacuation accessory, ask us and we will tell you what is actually available for this drain rather than assume. At a glance Fluid capacity 9 gallons Funnel diameter 18" (457 mm) Adjustable height 32" to 64" (813 mm to 1,626 mm) Shipping weight 14 lbs. For a portable fluid-handling accessory that is unremarkable. It matters only if you work somewhere that requires listed equipment as a condition of insurance, of a fleet contract, or of a municipal shop policy. If that is you, tell us before you order and we will go back to the manufacturer for documentation rather than guess on your behalf. Shipping and delivery We ship within the contiguous United States. This item ships free, so there is nothing to add at checkout. If your order arrives on a freight carrier rather than a parcel service, somebody has to be present to receive it, and you need either a way to get it off the truck or the option of collecting from the carrier’s terminal. Residential delivery is a separate service and carries an additional fee, which is shown at checkout. Whatever turns up, inspect it before you sign: note a crushed corner, a tear or a missing carton on the delivery receipt at the moment of delivery. A clean signature makes a damage claim very hard to win afterwards. Warranty Ranger publishes one warranty document covering its product line rather than a separate term printed on each item, and we hold the current copy. We have deliberately not quoted a period here, because the fact sheet for this drain does not state one and a warranty length is not a number worth guessing at. Ask us and we will send you the document that applies before you order. One practical warning applies to any claim: do not take the unit apart. Stripping a product down to diagnose it yourself, before a claim has been opened, is the single most common reason a warranty claim is refused.
