Ranger R76ATR-L Tire Changer with DST2420 Balancer and Weights The interesting component in this package is the balancer's spindle. The DST2420 is specified on this listing with a 40 mm shaft, and shaft diameter is one of the few balancer numbers that translates directly into whether you get the same reading twice on the same wheel. A larger shaft is a stiffer reference, and a stiffer reference is what stops a heavy assembly from adding its own deflection to the imbalance the machine is trying to measure. Why the shaft is the specification worth reading A wheel balancer measures a very small force and reports it as a very specific instruction: this much weight, at this point on the rim. Everything between the tire and the sensor is in the measurement path, and the shaft is the largest single item in that path. If the shaft flexes under a heavy wheel, or the assembly can shift on it between the measuring spin and the confirmation spin, the machine reports an imbalance that is partly its own geometry. The technician then chases the reading, adds weight, re-spins, gets a different answer, and eventually blames the tire. A larger spindle is the unglamorous fix for that whole sequence. A caution we would rather you heard from us Our catalogue is not internally consistent about this balancer. This listing specifies a 40 mm shaft; another listing in our catalogue for the same balancer model quotes a smaller shaft diameter. We have not reconciled the two against a manufacturer datasheet, and we are not going to quietly pick the one that reads better. Cones, flange plates and truck adapters are matched to the shaft, so if you are buying additional adapters — or you already own a set from another machine — confirm the shaft size on your unit with us before you order them. If the shaft is not part of your decision, this changes nothing about the package. The balancer's working range Wheel diameter capacity is rated to 30", and the machine is a dynamic balancer specified to resolve within hundredths of an ounce. The practical meaning of that resolution is not that you will place a hundredth of an ounce of lead — nobody does — but that the machine can distinguish a wheel that is genuinely balanced from one that is close enough to feel at highway speed. That distinction is what a vibration complaint actually is. The changer that comes with it The R76ATR-L is the tilt-back tower machine with a single assist on the right-hand side. Tilting the tower back rather than working around a fixed column means the mount and demount head does not need re-setting each time the wheel size changes, which is worth most in a shop where consecutive jobs are nothing like each other. RimGuard clamps cover 10" to 30" against a 30" rated capacity. The assist tower is for beads that resist — run-flats, reinforced light-truck tires, and stiff aftermarket rubber — not for routine passenger work, which the machine handles without it. Weights in the crate Adhesive steel tape weights, black and silver, on rolls, each piece a quarter of an ounce and 1/2" wide, the set listed at 22 lbs. Tape weights are the right default on the alloy wheels this package is aimed at, where a clip-on either cannot seat on the flange or ends up visible. Having them in the crate rather than on a separate order is the difference between a bay that works the week it lands and one that waits on a consumables delivery. Siting and supply Level concrete, room for the tower to tilt and the arm to swing, and a plan for the electrical supply on both machines before they arrive. This listing is a specific factory combination of changer and balancer configurations, and we are not going to publish an electrical specification here that might not describe the unit that ships to you. Tell us what the bay has and we will confirm the configuration; the same applies to shop air and to any anchoring guidance, which come from the manufacturer's documentation rather than from a web page. Perfect For Tire shops and general repair shops handling heavier wheel assemblies alongside ordinary passenger work, where spindle stiffness stops being an abstraction. Workshops re-equipping a bay who would rather buy a matched pair than discover a mismatch. Fleet and light-commercial operations, within the balancer's rated wheel range. Restoration and specialist shops, where a marked rim is a serious problem and the covered clamps and tape weights are both doing quiet work. Tire changers and balancers usually fall outside the third-party listing scheme that governs vehicle lifts, which is a statement about the category and not a document you can hand to an underwriter. If your insurer, your fleet contract or your local shop licensing asks for paperwork on powered equipment, ask us for the manufacturer's documentation on these models before the order rather than after it. Delivery Shipped as freight inside the lower 48 states. You need a means of taking a pallet off a truck — forklift, or pallet jack and two people on level ground — or you can collect from the carrier's terminal, which suits a shop with no dock. Residential delivery is available and carries a residential fee. Inspect the freight while the driver is present and write any damage onto the delivery paperwork before signing; a clean signature is the thing that makes a later claim hard. Warranty One warranty document covers the manufacturer's product range, and we will send you the current version for these models on request rather than paraphrase a term here. Independent of the term: do not disassemble a faulty machine before the claim is open. It is the most common way a sound claim becomes a negotiation, and the downtime it saves is almost never worth the position it costs you.
