Ranger DST-2420 Wheel Balancer / 36 mm Shaft / 30" Maximum Wheel Diameter Capacity A 47" tire envelope on a machine with a 10" - 30" rim range. That combination is what the DST-2420 is really for. Plenty of balancers will take a 30" rim; fewer will close the hood on the tall, wide tire wrapped around it. The published maximum tire diameter here is 47" (1,194 mm) at up to 145 lbs. (65 kg), which covers light-truck and SUV rolling stock that a nominally similar machine will refuse. Beyond that, the DST-2420 is deliberately a no-frills unit. There is no video camera, no laser line and no automatic data arm — you enter the wheel parameters yourself, and the money goes into the sensing and the drive instead of the interface. For a shop that balances wheels all day and does not need the machine to measure them, that is the correct trade. Sensing comes first on this machine Imbalance is a force, and the DST-2420 measures it as one. Dual-component piezoelectric quartz load sensors, working alongside a digital rotation encoder, read longitudinal, transversal and shear effects simultaneously — three directions, measured, rather than one direction measured and the rest inferred. Quartz crystal is used because it is rigid and does not fatigue in the way a strain-gauge assembly eventually does, which is why sensor drift is not the thing that retires a machine of this class. Behind the sensors sits Ranger's Digital Sensor Technology: a 16-digit digital signal processor on single-chip architecture. Single-chip matters for an unglamorous reason — fewer inter-chip hops means lower latency between the sensor reading and the number on the display, and less heat to dissipate inside a cabinet that lives in a hot bay. The published resolution is 0.01 ounce and 1.4°, with balancing increments of 0.25 or 0.01 oz and stated accuracy of +- .5 gram (.025 oz). The drive is one belt and nothing else Ranger's Direct-Axis arrangement runs a single belt from the motor to the unbalance sensor. No gearbox, no chain, no intermediate stage — which removes most of the consumable parts a balancer would otherwise accumulate over a decade of service. The 1.5 HP motor turns the assembly at 180 RPM, a deliberately unhurried balancing speed that keeps a heavy assembly controllable, and electronic braking brings it to rest without the operator touching it. Cycle time is published at 6 - 9 seconds on average. One figure to confirm with us: the shaft Published figures for the shaft diameter differ: this product's title specifies a 36 mm shaft, while the feature list on this same page specifies a precision-machined, hardened-steel 40 mm shaft (ACME thread 30-degree 3-P). Shaft diameter decides which cones, flanges and adapters will fit, so each figure is attributed to its source here rather than one being picked for you. If you are matching this balancer to tooling you already own, contact us before ordering and we will confirm the shaft against the machine before it leaves the warehouse. Every other figure on this page is consistent across the published sources. Will It Fit? Wheel diameter capacity 10" - 30" Rim width capacity 2" - 18" (51 mm - 457 mm) Maximum tire diameter 47" (1,194 mm) Maximum tire weight 145 lbs. (161 kg) Shipping dimensions 38" x 30" x 46" (965 mm x 762 mm x 1,168 mm) Two responsibilities sit with the buyer, and both are cheaper to check now than to discover on delivery day. Have an electrician confirm your available circuit against the motor rating above. And measure the route, not just the destination: a 38" x 30" x 46" crate at 356 lbs. (161 kg) has to clear a doorway and any turn between the doorway and where the machine will stand. Send us your measurements if you are close to the limit and we will work through it with you. The cone package The tooling that ships with a balancer is where two similar machines quietly stop being similar, so here is the complete set. Cone Hub range Automotive / light truck 1.75" - 2.75" Automotive / light truck 2.75" - 3.50" Automotive / light truck 3.50" - 4.25" Heavy-duty truck cone 4.50" - 5.00" Three automotive and light-truck cones plus a heavy-duty truck cone covering 4.50" - 5.00" is a fuller kit than the class usually ships with, and it is the reason a shop that occasionally sees a heavier hub does not need to buy tooling on day one. Wheels are held by a full-perimeter rubber no-mar quick-nut bell adapter, which grips the face without marking it — the relevant consideration on a customer's painted or polished aftermarket wheel. Day-to-day operation The touch-pad display carries tire and wheel assembly graphics rather than a wall of abbreviations, and the function keys are icon-labelled, so a technician who uses the machine twice a week is not relearning it each time. Bright LED weight-placement indicators light as the wheel is rolled to top-dead-center, and tiered indicators help with the placements you cannot see directly — split-weight and behind-the-spoke techniques on alloy wheels where a visible clip-on weight is not acceptable to the customer. A multi-user save function holds presets, an automatic round-off function reduces fiddling, and a side shelf with an open-top design takes bulk rolls of adhesive tape weight where the operator's hand already is. Perfect For One-bay independents that need a dependable balancer rather than a feature list. High-volume tire stores running the machine continuously, where the single-belt drive earns its keep in parts not bought. Shops seeing SUV and light-truck work, where the 47" (1,194 mm) tire capacity is the deciding specification. Mobile and satellite operations wanting a manual-entry machine with no fragile measuring arms to knock. What's in the Box DST-2420 balancer with touch-pad display panel Three automotive and light-truck cones plus one heavy-duty truck cone Full-perimeter rubber no-mar quick-nut bell adapter Quick-release hub nut Wheel weight starter kit: one bulk roll of 100 silver adhesive steel tape weights, one bulk roll of 100 black adhesive steel tape weights, and one starter box of mixed clip-on steel weights Certification, stated plainly Our record for this balancer claims no third-party safety listing, and we will not put one on the page it does not have. In practice this rarely affects a balancer purchase — shop equipment of this kind is not regulated the way lifting equipment is. If your insurer, a franchise agreement or a local inspector does ask for a specific listing document, ask us before ordering and we will tell you precisely what the manufacturer supplies. Shipping and delivery This unit travels as freight to the lower 48 states. Freight is not a parcel service: the crate comes off at the back of the truck and the rest is yours, so plan for a forklift, a dock, or several people — or nominate the carrier's terminal and collect it yourself. Residential delivery carries a residential fee, quoted live during checkout rather than published here, because freight pricing moves. Before you sign anything, inspect the crate: note damage on the delivery receipt in writing, photograph it while the driver is present, and contact us that day. A clean signature on a damaged crate is close to impossible to undo. Warranty Ranger's published warranty document for this product is linked on this page and is what governs; we do not restate the terms, because a summary that drifts from the source is worse than no summary. If a fault appears, call us before you take the machine apart. Opening a sealed drive or sensor assembly ahead of the manufacturer's inspection is the most reliable way to lose a claim that would otherwise have been paid.
