Product Description Ranger Coated Clip-On Steel Wheel Weights — 1 oz, 25-Piece Pack The detail worth buying on this pack is the coating. These are steel clip-on balance weights finished with a powder coat, and that finish is the whole difference between a weight you can hang on a customer's polished or painted alloy without a second thought and a bare weight that blooms rust at the clip and streaks the rim face over one salted winter. Ranger boxes them in packs of 25, one size to a box, so a balancing bench gets stocked by the sizes your work actually consumes instead of by an assortment tray you throw half of away. This listing is the 1 oz size. Ranger's coated clip-on line covers .25 oz. through 3 oz. in 0.25 oz. steps, each size packed on its own. If you already run Ranger weights, this is a straight replenishment box; if you are setting a bench up from scratch, the mid-range sizes like this one are the ones that empty first. Why the powder coat is the product A clip-on weight lives in the worst spot on the wheel. It sits at the rim flange, right where brake dust, road film and de-icing salt collect and stay damp long after the rest of the car has dried. Bare steel there does two things a shop pays for: it stains the wheel in a halo around the weight, and it corrodes the clip into the flange so that the next technician who has to rebalance that wheel ends up levering the finish off getting the weight back out. The powder-coated surface is specified to help eliminate corrosion and staining of expensive wheels, and on a set of alloys that is not a cosmetic nicety — it is the reason the wheel still looks the same at the next tyre change. Clip-on or stick-on — choose by the wheel, not by habit A clip engages the rim flange mechanically. There is no surface preparation, no solvent wipe, no adhesive to cure and nothing left behind when the weight comes off. That matters most on a wheel that has just come out of the wash bay or off a wet road, where tape simply will not hold. It also means a correction is done the moment the weight is seated — clip it in and the job is finished, with no cleanup and no residue on the barrel of the rim. There is a second, quieter advantage. Ranger makes most of these clip-on sizes a little heavier than the equivalent stick-on weight, so a given correction takes fewer pieces. Fewer pieces means less time at the balancer, a tidier flange and one less handful of small parts to sort through mid-job. Profile, contour and caliper clearance These are shaped to sit like the weight the vehicle left the factory with — the same fit, function and look as an OEM weight, on purpose. The narrow profile follows OEM rim contours more closely than a generic weight does, and the slender shape and out-of-sight mounting position keep the wheel looking clean rather than studded with hardware. The low-profile design also buys clearance where it is genuinely tight: on plenty of modern vehicles the caliper or a brake component passes very close to the inside of the rim, and a tall weight in the wrong position is the difference between a balanced wheel and a rhythmic scrape on the first test drive. Lead-free steel, and why the shop cares The construction is 100% lead-free steel. That is partly an environmental point and partly a practical one: lead wheel weights are restricted or banned outright in a growing list of jurisdictions, and a shop that still has them on the shelf has a disposal problem as well as a compliance one. Ranger states these weights meet national environmental laws and health and safety codes. Steel also holds its shape at the clip better than lead does, which is part of why the hold stays tight rather than relaxing after a few thousand miles. Perfect For Tyre and wheel shops running a balancer daily and buying weights by the size, not the assortment. General repair shops doing seasonal changeovers, where wheels come off wet and dirty and adhesive weights are a gamble. Mobile tyre service, where there is no wash bay and no time to prep a surface before a weight goes on. Dealerships that need the weight on a customer's alloy to look and behave like the one it replaced. Serious home and club-level users with their own balancer who would rather stock two or three sizes properly than keep a mixed tin. What's in the Box Twenty-five coated clip-on steel weights, every one of them the 1 oz size. That is the whole contents — no tool, no assortment tray, no adhesive strips, and no other sizes mixed in. The packed weight is 1.56 lbs. Certification, stated plainly Ranger's own material for these weights makes two claims and we will repeat exactly those two: the construction is lead-free, and the weights are stated to meet national environmental laws and health and safety codes. There is no third-party listing mark quoted for this pack in the manufacturer's data, so we are not going to imply one exists. If a municipal contract, a state programme or a fleet policy requires documented evidence of lead-free wheel weights before you can use them, ask us before you order and we will chase the manufacturer's statement in writing rather than let you assume it. Delivery and Pickup At 1.56 lbs a pack this is a small-parcel item, not a freight shipment — it ships ground to the lower 48 states and does not need a truck, a dock or anyone on site to unload it. Whichever way it arrives, open the pack and check the size marked on the weights against what you ordered before you put them on the bench; sizes get mixed at the shelf far more often than they get mixed at the factory. Warranty These are covered by Ranger's published product warranty; the document is linked in the downloads section of this page, and it is the authority on what is covered rather than anything we could summarise here. If a pack arrives short, damaged or containing the wrong size, keep the box and the packing slip and contact us before returning anything — the pack markings are how a claim gets matched to a production lot, and a bagful of loose weights with no packaging is very hard to put right.
