Ranger Clip-On Steel Wheel Weight Coated - 1.5 Oz - 25 Pcs This is one of the two sizes in the range whose published data states the material position outright: the weights are 100% lead-free steel, and Ranger's feature list says they meet national environmental laws and health and safety codes. For a shop that has to answer a question about what it fits to customers' wheels, a written claim on the listing is worth considerably more than an assumption about what a modern weight probably contains. Lead-free is a legal question, not a marketing one Wheel weights used to be lead. Lead is dense, cheap and soft enough to form easily, and it is also the reason weights became a regulated item: a weight thrown on a road is ground into dust by traffic and washed into drains. Several states restrict lead wheel weights directly and national environmental rules bear on them, which turns "what are these made of" from a curiosity into something a workshop can be asked to evidence. Steel changes the calculation. It is less dense than lead, so a steel weight of a given value is physically larger, which is the one genuine trade — it is also why the profile of the weight matters, and why the feature list makes a point of the narrow, low-profile shape. What you get in return is a part that does not carry a regulatory question around with it. One line in the feature list below does not belong to this part Read the published feature list further down the page and you will find "strong adhesive backing for dependable attachment" sitting two lines above "clips on easy for an extremely tight hold". Both cannot be true of the same weight. This is a clip-on weight — the title says so, the catalogue style says so, and it is retained purely by spring tension in a formed steel clip hooked over the rim flange. There is no tape and no adhesive in the box. We have left the manufacturer's list as published rather than quietly editing it, but you should not order on the strength of that line. If what you actually need is a tape-on weight for a wheel with no usable flange, tell us and we will point you at the right product instead. Profile, clearance and the way it looks on the wheel Three of the published features are really one argument, and it is a good one. The weights are shaped with a narrow profile that follows the contour of an original-equipment wheel, they are low-profile for clearance where a caliper sits close to the rim, and they are designed to match the fit, function and appearance of the weights a manufacturer would have fitted. The caliper point is the practical one. On performance and larger-braked vehicles the gap between the rim flange and the caliper is genuinely tight, and a weight that stands proud is a weight that can foul on suspension movement. A low-profile weight is not a styling choice there — it is the difference between a correction that fits and one that has to be moved somewhere less effective. The powder-coated surface is doing the other job on this list: it helps prevent the corrosion and staining that mark expensive wheels, and it slows the rusting that would otherwise relax the clip's tension from within over a few winters. Will it fit your wheels? The style is listed as Clip-on / Pfe, which names a clip profile. Clip profiles are matched to the cross-section of the rim flange, not to a vehicle model, so a nearly-right profile is a weight that will not sit flush and will spend its life trying to spring off. Check what your wheels take before ordering a full box, or send us a note and we will help you work it out. Perfect For Shops that have to evidence what they fit under a state programme, an environmental audit or a fleet contract. Vehicles with tight caliper-to-rim clearance, where the low-profile shape is what makes the correction fit at all. Dealership bays wanting weights that match the appearance of factory-fitted ones on a nearly new car. General tire service keeping a mid-range correction size permanently on the shelf. What's in the Box Twenty-five coated clip-on steel weights in a single size, packed at 2.34 lbs. No adhesive pads, no primer and no applicator — a clean flange and a wheel weight hammer are all that is needed to fit them. Specifications Style Clip-on / Pfe Construction Powder-coated steel, 100% lead-free Weight each 1.5 oz Quantity 25 per box Package weight 2.34 lbs Profile Narrow, low-profile for close-proximity brake components Compliance and certification, stated plainly What this listing claims is what is written above: lead-free construction, and compliance with national environmental laws and health and safety codes. What it does not claim — and what we will not imply — is an independent laboratory certification or a third-party listing behind those statements. They are the manufacturer's own declarations. That distinction matters if you are being asked for evidence rather than a claim, because a declaration and a test certificate are different documents. If an audit or a contract needs the stronger one, ask us for the manufacturer's paperwork on this part number before you order and we will find out what actually exists. Shipping and delivery These go out as a small parcel rather than as a freight shipment, within the lower 48 states. Give the carton a look before you sign for it, and put any crushing or a split seam on the carrier's paperwork at that point — the note made at the door is what stops a damage claim turning into an argument. Collection from the Ranger pick-up locations further down this page is available if that suits you better. Warranty Ranger's published warranty document governs any claim rather than a summary here, so no term is paraphrased on this page; ask us for the current copy if you want to read it before ordering. If a box arrives with clips that have been crushed or deformed, get in touch before straightening them — a reworked clip cannot be assessed and reshaping one will usually end the claim.
