Quincy G214K30HCD — 14 HP Kohler, 30-Gallon Two-Stage Truck-Mount Air Compressor with Electric Start The feature that decides this purchase is a button. The G214K30HCD runs a 14 HP Kohler Command Pro with a 12-Volt starter and a recoil rope kept as a backup, which means the operator starts it from the side of the truck instead of bracing a foot on the deck and pulling. On a service truck that is not a comfort item. It is the difference between a compressor that gets started for a five-minute job and one that gets left off because starting it is a fight. Everything behind the engine is shop-grade rather than contractor-grade: a cast iron two-stage QT pump on a belt drive, a horizontal 30-gallon receiver, and a 100% duty cycle rating, which is to say it is designed to run rather than to rest. Electric start, and the part nobody mentions A 12-Volt start needs 12 volts. The battery and the cable are not supplied with this unit, and that is stated plainly in Quincy's own product information rather than buried by us. In practice most buyers take the feed from the truck's electrical system or from a dedicated battery mounted alongside the compressor, and either way it is an install decision to make before the machine arrives, not after. If you are having the unit fitted by a body builder, tell them; it is a five-minute job at build time and an awkward one later. The recoil starter stays fitted, which matters more than it sounds. A gas engine that can only be started electrically is a gas engine that is dead when the battery is flat, usually at the worst moment. Having both means a flat battery is an inconvenience. Where it goes, and what it weighs Plan for roughly 42" long, 21" wide and 40" tall, and about 502 lbs. On a service body those numbers matter twice over. The footprint has to fit the deck or the compartment, and the weight has to be accounted for in your payload and in where it sits relative to the axle — half a tonne of anything mounted behind the rear axle changes how a truck handles and how much else you can legally carry. Talk to whoever builds or certifies the body about mounting and load distribution before you order. The tank is horizontal, which is the correct orientation for a vehicle: a low, long mass is stable, and it keeps the machine below the line of sight over the deck. It is also the shape that will sit under a canopy. The tank outlet is 1/2". Two more siting points, both about running a petrol engine in the real world. It needs air — enclose it in a sealed compartment and it will run hot and die young. And it produces exhaust, so it is an outdoor machine or a machine used in a well-ventilated space, never a closed workshop or a basement. That is a safety line, not a performance note. What the two-stage pump does for you on a truck Site work is exactly the duty that punishes a single-stage compressor: long runs on impact wrenches and chippers, often in heat, often with the machine sitting in the sun on a steel deck. Two-stage compression splits the work between a large cylinder and a small one and cools the air in a finned intercooler in between, so the second stage is compressing cool, dense air instead of hot air. The pump runs cooler, the oil stays in better condition, and the machine will hold 175 PSI all afternoon rather than fading. The pump itself is cast iron with an aluminum head — iron for the cylinders where wear and rigidity matter, aluminum on top where shedding heat matters. Quincy rates the QT pump family for a service life in the tens of thousands of hours, quoting more than 50,000. Stainless reed valves resist the corrosion that comes with the moisture a hard-working compressor makes, a balanced cast iron flywheel smooths the pulses and drags cooling air over the pump, and graphite gaskets keep it all sealed. The belt drive means the pump turns slower than the engine, which is the quiet reason these machines last. Perfect For Mobile mechanics and roadside service trucks that need real air, not a tyre topper. Fleet and utility maintenance where the compressor lives on the vehicle permanently. Agricultural and remote work with no mains supply within a mile. Contractors running impact tools, air chisels and blow-off away from a building. A shop that needs a second, portable air source for the yard. What is in the box — and what is not Supplied: the complete unit on its horizontal receiver — the 14 HP Kohler Command Pro engine with electric and recoil starting, the two-stage cast iron belt-drive pump with its guard, the intercooler, the air filter, the pressure gauge, the oil sight glass and the tank. Not supplied, and worth planning for: the starting battery and cable, as above; a mounting frame or brackets for your particular body; hose and reel; and any air treatment. Our record also shows no air dryer, no aftercooler, no electronic tank drain, no automatic idle control and no engine or pump low-oil shutdown fitted to this model — so oil level and tank draining are on the operator's checklist, and on a mobile machine that checklist matters more than it does in a shop. Specifications Engine Kohler Command Pro, 14 HP, gasoline Starting 12-Volt button start with recoil backup (battery and cable not included) Pump Two-stage, cast iron with aluminum head, belt drive, splash lubricated Duty cycle 100% Maximum pressure 175 PSI Tank 30-gallon horizontal receiver Tank outlet 1/2" Dimensions 42" long × 21" wide × 40" high Weight 502 lbs Delivered air Not published here — ask us and we will confirm it On that last row: our specification feed does carry an airflow number for this machine, but it arrives with no unit attached and with two other conflicting values beside it. We are not prepared to print a rating we cannot source cleanly, so ask and we will get the delivered air at pressure from Quincy in writing. Certification, stated plainly The specification sheet for this unit lists ASME on the pressure vessel and UL and CSA on the electrical side. Those cover the tank and the electrical components; they say nothing about how the machine is mounted to your vehicle, and a compressor bolted to a truck is a vehicle modification. If your fleet policy, your insurer or your body certifier has requirements about mounting, guarding or exhaust routing, get those confirmed against your build — the machine's own approvals do not answer that question. Warranty Cover is a 1-year factory warranty, which Quincy extends to a 3-year "No Bull" warranty on its own conditions: the EWK-3 maintenance kit must be purchased with the compressor, and the unit must be registered with Quincy. Note that the engine is a Kohler product and is covered by Kohler's own engine warranty rather than by the compressor warranty — two different documents, two different claim routes. Our warranty page is here and we will walk you through either. As always: do not strip the pump or the engine before a claim has been agreed, or there will be nothing left to assess. Freight and delivery The unit ships freight on a pallet within the lower 48 states. At its weight it is not a two-person lift, so you need a forklift or a pallet jack at the delivery point, or you can arrange terminal pickup and collect it on a trailer. Residential delivery is available and carries a residential fee; freight is quoted live at checkout, so the figure you see is current rather than a printed guess. Check it before signing. Look at the engine shroud, the belt guard, the gauges and the tank, and note any damage on the bill of lading in front of the driver. Once you have signed a clean receipt, a carrier claim becomes very hard to win.
