Quincy QGS 7.5 Rotary Screw Air Compressor, 60 Gallon, 230V Single Phase The interesting thing about the QGS 7.5 is not the capacity. It is that a rotary screw compressor rated for 100% continuous duty runs here on a 1-phase 230V supply — the same kind of service a small shop already has for a welder — and does it at 64 dBA. Screw compressors have historically been three-phase equipment for buildings with industrial power. This one puts genuinely continuous air, 20.4 CFM at 150 PSI, into a workshop that cannot get three-phase and cannot tolerate the noise of a piston machine running all day in the same room as people. Why a screw compressor is a different kind of machine A piston compressor works in bursts. It builds pressure, hits the cut-out, stops, and waits for demand to pull the tank down again, and its duty rating tells you what fraction of the hour it can spend running. A rotary screw compresses air continuously between two meshing rotors — there is no reciprocating mass, no valve slapping shut millions of times, and no inherent reason to stop. That is why the 100% duty rating on this machine is a design characteristic rather than an optimistic reading of a test. The practical consequences are the ones you notice. Delivery is steady rather than pulsing, which matters for anything sensitive to pressure ripple. Wear is rotational rather than reciprocating, so the maintenance list is short and predictable. And the machine can sit at part load all afternoon without the thermal punishment a piston pump takes from constant cycling. The pump here is an oil-injected twin screw, with the oil doing three jobs at once: sealing the rotor clearances, carrying heat away and lubricating the bearings. The noise number, and why it is the one people underestimate 64 dBA is the specification that changes how a shop feels. A standard quiet enclosure surrounds the package, and because a screw pump has no reciprocating mass, there is very little vibration for the enclosure to contain in the first place. The result sits somewhere around the level of ordinary conversation rather than the level that makes people leave the room, and it means the compressor can live in the workspace instead of in a shed you have to build for it. If you have ever had a conversation interrupted by a piston compressor starting, you already understand the value of this line. Built to run, and to keep running The lubricant is a premium synthetic rated for 8,000 hours, with low oil carryover so what leaves the machine is air rather than a fine mist headed for your tools. The drive is a long-life V-belt — simple, cheap to service and forgiving. The motor is a TEFC design with an IP 55 washdown rating, meaning the windings are enclosed and protected rather than open to shop dust. Control is start and stop operation through a UL and cUL compliant control panel, and the package is specified for a minimum ambient of 36°F, which is worth checking against an unheated building in January. Will It Fit? The compressor sits on a horizontal 60-gallon receiver and measures 56 inches long, 23 inches wide and 51 inches high, weighing 465 lbs. That is a genuinely compact package for continuous air, and the small footprint is part of the design brief rather than a happy accident. Discharge is a 1/2-inch tank outlet. Leave clearance around the enclosure for cooling airflow and for the service panels; an enclosed machine that cannot breathe will run hot and shorten the oil life you paid for. Electrically it needs 230V 1-phase power with a magnetic starter, which is fitted. Breaker and conductor sizing is a certified electrician job against your service — the manufacturer instruction is to consult one rather than publish a figure that cannot know your building or your run length. Confirming the supply, the doorway, the access route and the floor before you order is the buyer responsibility. Perfect For Single-phase workshops that need continuous air and cannot get three-phase service without a utility project. Shops where people work near the compressor and noise is a daily cost rather than a specification. Paint, cabinet and finishing work that wants steady delivered pressure instead of a pulsing supply. Small commercial and light industrial sites running long sessions where a piston machine would be at its duty limit. What Arrives The compressor is delivered as a turn-key package: the oil-injected twin screw airend, TEFC motor, V-belt drive, quiet enclosure and control panel all mounted on the horizontal receiver. The documentation we hold does not list hose, downstream filtration, a dryer, a regulator or an isolation valve as included, so plan on those separately. Note also that the extended warranty terms below require Quincy maintenance kits and, in the longer case, a Quincy authorized start-up — worth arranging at the time of purchase rather than afterwards. Specifications Type Rotary screw, oil-injected twin screw pump, belt drive Motor 7.5 HP, 230V, 1-phase, TEFC, IP 55 washdown Delivery 20.4 CFM at 150 PSI Duty 100% continuous Sound level 64 dBA, standard quiet enclosure Lubrication Premium synthetic, rated 8,000 hours, low oil carryover Control Start and stop operation, UL and cUL compliant panel, minimum ambient 36°F Receiver 60 gallons, horizontal, 1/2-inch outlet Dimensions 56 inches long, 23 inches wide, 51 inches high Weight 465 lbs Certification, Stated Plainly The specification sheet records an ASME mark, and the control panel is stated as UL and cUL compliant. It is worth being exact about the boundary between those. The ASME mark is a pressure vessel certification covering the receiver — its design, its material and its construction — and it is what an inspector or an insurer will look for on a tank. The panel compliance covers the electrical controls, not the machine as a whole. Neither of them certifies air quality for breathing or for food contact, and neither removes any local requirement to register, permit or periodically inspect a pressure vessel. Check what applies at your address before installation rather than after it. Shipping and Delivery This item ships free within the lower 48 states, so there is nothing to add at checkout. Two things to arrange before the truck is booked. The first is how the machine comes off it: a forklift or a loading dock at the delivery point, or collection from the freight terminal if you have neither at the site. The second is the address type, because a residential delivery is a different operation for a carrier and carries a residential fee — tell us the truth about the destination and the quote will be right the first time. At delivery, inspect before signing. Bent guards, a cracked gauge, oil on the wrap, a dented receiver corner: all of it goes on the bill of lading before the driver pulls away. That single habit is the difference between a freight claim that settles and one that goes nowhere. Warranty Base cover is a 1-year factory warranty. There are two extensions and they have different conditions, so read them carefully. An extended 3-year factory warranty is available when you register the unit with Quincy and service it using Quincy maintenance kits. Beyond that, the True Blue 5-year warranty applies where the machine has had a Quincy authorized start-up, and it covers the airend, the motor, the separator reservoir and the cooler and heat exchanger. If the long warranty is part of why you are buying this compressor, arrange the authorized start-up before the machine is commissioned rather than afterwards, because it is a precondition and not a formality. And as with any compressor: if a fault appears, contact us before anything is taken apart. Dismantled machines are the usual reason a claim gets declined.
