Off‑grid Wind & Solar Power System | Marlec FM1803‑2 Wind Turbine 840W, Trina 0.9kW Solar, Rolls 9.6kWh AGM Battery, Victron 3kVA Inverter Hybrid 48V off‑grid system combining Marlec’s Rutland FM1803‑2 wind turbine, 0.9kW Trina solar array and AGM battery with Vicron 3kVA inverter for reliable 230V power at remote sites. Designed for 24/7 operation in challenging UK and overseas locations, with wind and solar working together to keep a 9.6kWh battery bank charged. Built around trusted Marlec, Trina, Victron and Rolls components, with UK‑based technical support and installation via approved partners. Overview This off‑grid wind and solar power system combines the Marlec FM1803‑2 48V Windcharger,2 x 445W array of Trina Vertex S NEG9R.25 solar modules, a 48V 200Ah Rolls AGM battery bank (9.6kWh) and a Victron MultiPlus‑II 48/3000 inverter/charger. Together they provide a stable 48V DC bus and 230V AC supply for remote and industrial applications. The FM1803‑2 wind turbine and SmartSolar MPPT controller keep the battery bank charged whenever there is wind and sun, while the MultiPlus‑II delivers up to 3kVA inverter power and integrated battery charging when a generator or auxiliary AC source is available. The system is suitable as a stand‑alone solution or as part of a wider hybrid power setup. Key features Proven 48V wind turbine – Marlec Rutland FM1803‑2 1.8m Furlmatic Windcharger with furling tail protection and high voltage three‑phase output for long cable runs to the controller. 1.8kW high‑efficiency solar array – Trina Vertex S NEG9R.25 N‑type dual‑glass modules up to 455W and 22.8% efficiency, providing additional daytime charging and reducing generator runtime. 9.6kWh sealed AGM storage – Four Rolls R12‑200AGM 12V 200Ah deep‑cycle batteries in series for 48V, maintenance‑free with robust high‑rate discharge capability. Victron MultiPlus‑II 3kVA inverter/charger – 48/3000/35‑32 model offering 3000VA / 2400W continuous output at 25°C, 35A battery charging and PowerAssist support for generators. Victron SmartSolar MPPT 150/35 – 150V, 35A MPPT charge controller suitable for up to 2kW of PV at 48V, with high efficiency and Bluetooth monitoring. Where to use this system This hybrid wind and solar kit is aimed at users who need reliable, unattended power in locations where grid connection is impractical or costly. Typical applications include: Telecommunications and data – Remote masts, microwave links and IoT gateways requiring continuous DC and AC power, with reduced site visits thanks to hybrid charging. Monitoring and control – Environmental monitoring stations, instrumentation, traffic and seismic monitoring systems in exposed or hard‑to‑reach sites. Security and lighting – CCTV, street lighting and signage where reliable night‑time power is essential and wind can complement solar in winter. Remote cabins and site welfare – Off‑grid homes, welfare units and site offices requiring robust 230V AC supply for lighting, refrigeration, IT equipment and small tools. Due to the mechanical and electrical complexity of the wind turbine, solar array and 48V system, we recommend installation by a qualified installer familiar with Marlec and Victron equipment. Energian can connect you with trusted UK partners for full design, installation and commissioning. Technical specifications – Marlec FM1803‑2 Windcharger (48V) Model: Rutland FM1803‑2 Furlmatic Windcharger, land‑based turbine. Applications (examples): Railways, highways, environmental monitoring sites, telecommunications sites, remote homes. Typical loads powered: CCTV, telecommunication equipment, instrumentation, street lighting and signage, lighting and refrigeration. Turbine diameter: 1.8m rotor. Number of blades: 3 aerofoil blades, fixed pitch. Blade construction: Individually injection‑moulded, glass‑filled mouldings with nose cone. Start‑up behaviour: Aerodynamic rotor runs at approximately 2m/s; generation starts at around 3m/s. Generator type: Low torque, three‑phase brushless AC generator with high‑power rare‑earth magnets and low‑friction bearings. Generator output: Variable‑frequency alternating current at approximately 120V line‑to‑line under normal conditions. Yaw system: Sliprings and brushgear enabling 360° free yaw without cable twist. Furling system: Mechanical furling tail; over 15m/s (approx. 35mph / 56kph) wind speeds cause the offset tail fin to rotate the turbine at right angles to the wind until conditions subside. Furling benefits: Reduces rotor speed; relieves tower loading; lowers electrical output to aid cooling; gravity‑induced furling cycles automatically in high winds. Materials: Aluminium, stainless steel, glass‑filled injection mouldings and high‑quality paint finishes. Available system voltages: 12V, 24V and 48V versions (this system uses 48V). MPC‑2 Controller (included) Key functions: Transforms and rectifies high‑voltage AC to DC for battery charging; optimises turbine performance; prevents battery overcharge. Operating technologies: Three‑phase transformer and full‑wave bridge rectifier; low and high wind modes to optimise rotor performance and increase daily energy yields. Battery overcharge control: Charges until batteries reach 14.4V per 12V section, then switches to “stalled” mode; resumes charging when voltage falls to 12.5V per 12V section. Thermal protection: Over‑temperature electronic shutdown with fan cooling; turbine stalled temporarily under high internal temperatures. Display and controls: Backlit LCD showing mode, battery volts, Amps, Watts and Ampere hours; Run / Stall / Reset button. Sensor connections: Temperature compensation sensor (supplied); optional remote voltage sensor for battery cables >1.5m; serial data socket for remote display, data collection or parameter programming; remote shutdown connection. Run/Stop switch: Separate RUN/STOP switch supplied for connection between turbine and controller.
