Club: Newcastle United Year: 2008/09 Brand: Adidas Jersey Type: Away Size: L Player Name: Shola Ameobi 23 Chest length (cm): 55Shirt length (cm): 76 History: Newcastle United's season of turmoil in 2008/09 culminated in the Magpies suffer their first relegation in the modern era. The unpopular Mike Ashley's ownership saw the club went through six managerial changes in the season alone, first with popular manager Kevin Keegan quitting the post on 1st September that sparked a series of short term caretaker managers stepping in. Even club legend, Alan Shearer's return to the dugout was unable to galvanise the team from the relegation dogfight. And the club's misery was confirmed on the last game of the season. Having first started his career in 2000 with Newcastle, Shola Ameobi's standing with the Toon Army will be viewed as a club legend. Spending 14 years at Tyne side, Ameobi made 312 appearances scoring 53 goals and been through the Champions League high under Sir Bobby Robson to the Intertoto Cup win in 2006, the Nigerian forward stayed with the club after the relegation and helped them bounce back immediately, lifting the Championship trophy in the process.
