Matala Medium Density Filter Media Matala filter media delivers dual-purpose mechanical and biological filtration in a single, proven solution. These green full sheets use thermo-polypropylene compounds formed into a rigid yet flexible structure that maintains optimal water flow while preventing channeling—critical for healthy pond ecosystems. Why Choose Matala for Your Pond The curly fiber design creates micro-turbulence and 3-D water flow, extending contact time between water and biofilm. This gentle mixing increases filtration efficiency, allowing you to use smaller filter tanks while supporting larger biofilm colonies. The high available surface area means more beneficial bacteria can establish, improving water quality naturally. Key Features Medium density balances filtration and flow for most pond applications Easy to cut to fit custom filter designs Simple to clean without damaging beneficial bacteria Long-lasting, eco-friendly material Proven in aquaculture, koi ponds, and wastewater treatment Specifications Size: Full sheet, 48" × 39-1/2" × 1-1/2"Density: Medium densityColor: GreenMaterial: Thermo-polypropylene compounds Density Options Density Grade Best For Black (Extra Low) Initial mechanical filtration, pre-filter stage Green (Medium) Balanced mechanical and biological filtration Blue (High) Advanced biological filtration, mature systems Grey (Extra High) Maximum biofilm support, polishing stage Gentle Cleaning Approach Bio-filters thrive on live microorganisms. Clean your Matala media by rinsing with pond water or gently shaking in the filter tank—avoid aggressive scrubbing. This preserves the bacterial colonies that make biological filtration work.
