During the recession following World War II, the post-war government of field Marshal Plaek Phibunsongkhram as part of his campaign to foster a sense of national identity. By releasing a Pad Thai recipe and promoting it, Plaek turned one potential, take on stir-fried noodles into a national dish. Within several years, Pad Thai has become the famous local Thai street food.
