MAHLE BFX-20 Brake Fluid Exchanger — Base Unit Read this before you order: this is the base machine, part number 425 80011 00, and the manufacturer lists it as not including adapters. The adapters are the parts that seal the machine to a master cylinder reservoir cap, so without a set that fits the vehicles you work on, the unit cannot be connected to a car. That is not a fault — it is why this configuration costs less than the adapters-included version. It is the right choice if you already own adapters that suit your work, or if you want to specify your own set. If you are not certain what you have, ask us first; we would rather have that conversation than ship you a machine you cannot use on Monday. With that said, what arrives is a serious piece of workshop equipment. The BFX-20 turns brake fluid replacement into a single-technician job: it pushes fresh fluid from its own 5-liter (1.3 gal) container into the master cylinder under regulated pressure while the old fluid comes out at the bleed screws, so nobody has to sit in the car working the pedal. Why a Pressure Machine Beats a Pedal and a Jar Brake fluid absorbs moisture out of the air, and water in the circuit lowers the boiling point — which is why fluid that looks fine can still give a soft pedal after a long descent. Replacing it properly means moving the whole volume through, not topping up what is easy to reach. A hydraulic pump with an infinitely variable pressure regulator lets the technician hold the pressure a manufacturer specifies for as long as the job takes, which a pedal cannot do consistently, and which a stepped regulator can only approximate. The flow is deliberately pulsating rather than steady. A pulse dislodges bubbles that are clinging inside galleries and valve bodies instead of sliding past them. That is the reason this machine is specified for vehicles with ABS, ESP, EDS and SBC — systems with small passages and valve blocks where a bubble can survive a conventional bleed and reappear later as a long pedal. The Details That Matter at the End of the Job Three features on this unit exist purely to protect the technician and the car during the least glamorous part of the service. It switches off automatically when the container empties, so an unattended machine does not pump air into a circuit. It decouples from the vehicle with no pressure in the line, so disconnecting does not spray fluid at the cap — brake fluid takes paint off a wing, and that turns a routine service into a bodyshop bill. And the device does not need venting when you change containers, which removes a step people skip when they are in a hurry. The BFX PLUS extraction system handles waste fluid removal, and a removable tool tray on the machine keeps adapters and fittings to hand rather than balanced on a bumper. Will It Fit Your Bay? The unit stands 40 inches tall on a 16 inch by 16 inch footprint and weighs 46 lbs, so one person can wheel it between bays and it stores against a wall. The specification worth checking against your own layout is the 11.3 ft filling hose — that length determines whether the machine can stay parked while you work on a vehicle up on a lift, or whether it needs repositioning partway through. Electrically it wants a standard 110V, 60Hz supply. Confirming your outlet placement, your bay clearance and, above all, your adapter situation before ordering is the buyer's responsibility. Perfect For Shops that already own adapters from previous equipment and want the machine without paying for a second set. Specialist workshops — single-marque, motorsport, restoration — where the vehicle range is narrow and a general adapter kit would mostly sit unused. Multi-bay operations adding a second or third exchanger alongside an existing one. Fleet garages running scheduled fluid changes where consistency of pressure matters more than vehicle variety. What's in the Box The exchanger itself, with the hydraulic pump, the infinitely variable pressure regulator, the BFX PLUS extraction system and the removable tool tray. Adapters are not included in this part number. The configuration that does include them is part number 425 80014 00 — we list it separately and can quote you the difference. Brake fluid is not supplied. Specifications Model BFX-20 (base unit, no adapters) Part number 425 80011 00 Max. container size 5L / 1.3 gal Filling hose length 11.3 ft Power supply 110V / 60Hz Dimensions 40 in H x 16 in W x 16 in L Weight 46 lbs Suitable for ABS, ESP, EDS, SBC Routine Maintenance The inline suction filter is a consumable and the manufacturer asks for it to be replaced periodically. It is the part standing between whatever has settled in a container and the circuit you are about to fill, so keep a spare on the shelf rather than treating it as a job for when there is time. Certification, Honestly We hold no record of a third-party safety listing or a conformity marking for this machine, and we will not print a badge we cannot evidence. For most workshops buying a fluid-service unit this changes nothing. Where it can matter is an insurer's schedule, a corporate purchasing standard or a local requirement that names a particular listing — if you are working to one of those, tell us before you order and we will ask the manufacturer for the documentation rather than guess. Shipping and Delivery This unit ships by freight within the lower 48 states. This item ships free, so there is nothing to add at checkout. You must be able to receive and unload the shipment, or arrange to collect it from the carrier's terminal — the driver is not obliged to bring it inside. Residential delivery is available and carries a residential fee. Inspect the shipment before signing and record any damage or shortage on the delivery receipt at the time of delivery; a receipt signed clean makes a subsequent damage claim very difficult to pursue. Warranty The stated warranty on this unit is 1 year, parts and labor. If a fault appears within that period, contact us first and leave the machine intact — stripping a unit down or attempting a repair before a claim has been opened is the most common reason a valid claim is refused.
