Antique Wooden Lapwing Decoy Hand Carved Folk Art Bird An authentic antique hand carved wooden lapwing decoy, carved in the traditional folk art style and dating to the early 20th century. This elegant example captures the distinctive upright posture and slender proportions of the lapwing, a familiar and historically important British wading bird. The decoy retains remnants of its original painted surface, including the darker painted back and hand applied white spotting characteristic of lapwing plumage. The head retains its original inset glass eyes, giving the piece strong presence and realism. The underside shows original mounting holes where the decoy would have been fixed to a stake for use in the field. These functional features confirm its genuine purpose as a working decoy rather than a later decorative carving. Lapwing decoys are highly sought after by collectors of British decoys, country sporting antiques, and folk art. The untouched surface, honest wear, and strong form make this an excellent collector’s and decorative piece. ConditionGood antique condition with age related wear throughout. Paint loss, surface wear, and age related cracking as expected. Original glass eyes intact. The beak is missing, consistent with age and use. Structurally solid with excellent authentic patina. DimensionsH: 12.5 cm x L: 27.5 cm x W: 6.5 cm EraEarly 20th century, circa 1900–1930
