Katool KT-MOTO1001 Manual Motorcycle Tire Changer Katool publishes the same clamping range twice for the KT-MOTO1001 — 9″ to 21″ inside, 9″ to 21″ outside — and that repetition is the most useful number on the page. It means the machine holds the same span of rims whether it grips from the inside of the barrel or from the outside edge, so the way a particular wheel has to be held is not a reason to turn the job away. Between a 9″ scooter rim and a 21″ front on a big adventure bike sits almost every wheel that will ever come through the door. Around that range is a purely mechanical machine: 40″ by 14″ on the floor, 56″ tall, 120 lbs, with no motor, no compressor and no supply to connect. It is aimed at motorcycle specialists, powersports departments and general workshops that want to stop sending two-wheel work down the road. Will it fit your bay? Floor. The base occupies 40″ by 14″. That is a narrow strip against a wall rather than a bay of its own, and it is the reason this machine gets bought by shops that thought they had no room left. Height. It stands 56″ tall, which puts the working surface near waist height for most operators. You are not bent over a wheel on the floor for the length of a job, and that shows up in the third and fourth tyre of the morning rather than the first. Anchoring. Manual bead work is leverage work, and leverage wants a base that does not move. Bolt it down or mount it to something heavy. The floor and the fixings are the buyer's side of the job — we cannot assess your slab from here. Nothing else. No circuit, no air drop, no drain. The install is the anchoring and nothing more. Delivery handling. 120 lbs is a two-person lift and a one-person injury. Have help arranged for the day it arrives. Why leverage beats a timer on a motorcycle rim Motorcycle wheels punish machines that apply force on a schedule. Rims are narrow, frequently painted or polished, sometimes spoked, and the tyres fitted to them range from a soft scooter cover to a reinforced touring carcass with a sidewall that resists everything. A powered changer keeps pushing until its cycle ends. On the KT-MOTO1001 the force stops the moment your hands do, so when a bead lets go you feel it, and when something is binding you feel that too — before it becomes a mark on a customer's wheel. The practical consequence is that difficult tyres stop being a gamble. Stiff sidewalls and low-profile covers can be worked in stages, with the pressure applied exactly where the bead is still seated instead of across the whole rim at once. On expensive aftermarket wheels, that control is worth more than speed. Independence from the shop's services Nothing on this changer draws current or air, and the value of that is easy to underrate until the compressor fails on a Friday. A manual machine has no duty cycle, no thermal cut-out and no seasonal starting problem. It works in an unheated unit, at a rally, in a container-based workshop, or at a customer's premises with nothing but a van behind it. Mobile motorcycle servicing in particular is built on exactly this: equipment that does not care whether there is power on site. What it takes to look after Maintenance is inspection and lubrication. Keep the pivots greased, keep rubber crumb and rim sealant off the working faces, and check the clamping surfaces occasionally for wear. There is no oil to change on a schedule, no filter, no motor brushes. Over a working life, the ownership cost of this machine is dominated by the price of the machine. Perfect For Dedicated motorcycle and scooter workshops handling everything from commuter wheels to touring rims. Car garages adding two-wheel work, where a car changer's clamps are simply the wrong shape for the job. Powersports dealers servicing what they sell rather than subcontracting it. Track-day and race support, where the machine has to travel and work wherever the paddock puts it. Home and club workshops that run their own tyres and want to stop paying for a job they could do properly. How Katool describes it The manufacturer's own feature list for this model is short and worth reading literally: a versatile fit across motorcycle tyre sizes and types; manual operation for control during the change, with no electricity or air compressor involved; a build described as high-quality materials for frequent use; and a design intended to be workable by professionals and competent DIY owners alike. Those are the claims made for it, stated as claims. Very few motorcycle workshops are ever asked. The ones that are asked tend to be operating under an insurance schedule, an employer's equipment policy or a local licensing rule that names a specific listed standard, and in those cases the requirement is worth confirming in writing before you order rather than discovering afterwards. Ask us what we know and we will tell you, including the parts we do not know. Getting it to you We deliver across the lower 48, with the carrier cost worked out live for your address during checkout rather than guessed in advance. Collection from the warehouse is available on this item as well. Either way, do the inspection while the driver is still on site: open the packaging, look for crush damage and for anything loose, and note what you see on the paperwork before you sign it. A photograph taken at that moment settles arguments that are otherwise impossible to win once the truck has gone. Warranty The published warranty for this model runs one year on all product parts, and the warranty document itself is available on request. If a component does fail, resist the urge to take it apart to see why. Dismantling before a claim is opened is normally read as modification and it is the fastest way to lose a claim that would otherwise have been paid. Photograph the fault, keep the packaging, and speak to us first. Unsure whether this changer suits the wheels you actually see? Contact us and we will go through it with you before you order.
