Katool KT-AV651: the manual-post aligner, and what that trade actually costs you Katool's lift-mounted 3D aligners differ from one another in one structural way, and on this model it is stated plainly in the feature list: the post moves manually. You set the camera beam to height by hand rather than driving it with a remote. That single sentence is the reason the KT-AV651 sits where it does in the range, and it is the thing worth thinking about before anything else on this page, because everything else in the system is the equipment you would expect at a considerably higher price. The measurement side is a two-camera 3D system requiring no calibration at installation. The vehicle data is a full database of American, European and Asian models with unlimited memory for specifications and a yearly upgrade at no additional cost. The package includes a tablet, a 30 inch display, mouse, keypad, printer, a wifi device and a USB drive, running on Android and iOS. None of that is reduced. What you are giving up is a powered beam. What the manual post means on a normal working day Alignment is a measure-adjust-measure loop, and on a 2-post lift the vehicle moves up and down within it. Each time it does, the camera beam needs to be at the right height relative to the targets. With a remote-driven post that is a button press from wherever the technician happens to be standing. Here it is a walk to the post and a manual adjustment. For a shop doing a handful of alignments a week that is a non-issue: the walk is a few seconds and the beam only needs setting once or twice per vehicle. For a shop doing alignment all day every day, those seconds accumulate into something that eventually justifies a powered post. Which of those two shops you are is a question only you can answer, and it is worth answering honestly before you buy rather than six months afterwards. Ask us if you want to talk it through against your actual volume. Will It Fit? An aligner has no ceiling or concrete requirement. The real questions are the supply, the route in, and the lift. All are the buyer's to confirm before ordering. Power. 100 V to 240 V, 50/60 Hz, single phase. That input range covers essentially any shop circuit, which is one fewer electrician's visit in the installation budget. Operating temperature. Katool states 41 °F to 104 °F for this system. Worth a thought if the machine will live in an unheated bay in a cold state or an uncooled one in a hot state; this is a computer and a pair of cameras, not a hydraulic tool. Getting it in. Two crates. The main crate's longest listed dimension is 47.24 inches (1,200 mm). The camera beam travels separately in a long slim crate 15.75 inches square in section (400 mm), which is the one that will not go round a tight corner. Walk the route before you book delivery. Weight. 440.92 lbs (200 kg) for the machine, 240 kg shipping. The lift. This is a lift-mounted system, so turn plates and slip plates go on your lift, positioned to the machine's specification. A lift that has never done alignment work may need equipping first. Coverage: what it will and will not align The published envelope is tire diameters from 9 27/32 in. to 31 1/2 in., up to 800 mm; wheelbases from 62 63/64 in. to 82 43/64 in.; and track widths from 70 55/64 in. to 177 11/64 in. In ordinary terms that is passenger cars, crossovers and light trucks, which is where the overwhelming majority of alignment revenue is. It is not a heavy commercial vehicle aligner and Katool does not present it as one. If your work includes long-wheelbase trucks, check your longest vehicle against the wheelbase figure before ordering rather than assuming. The database is the running cost nobody quotes you An aligner compares what it measures against the manufacturer's specification for that vehicle, so the value of the machine decays with the age of its data. Katool provides the yearly database upgrade for this system at no additional cost, and keeps it current across American, European and Asian brands. That is worth raising specifically when you compare this against other equipment, because on some alignment systems the annual data subscription is a permanent line in the shop's budget, and it does not appear anywhere on the purchase price. The software running on Android and iOS rather than a closed proprietary platform has a similar quiet benefit: updates behave like ordinary tablet updates, and a broken tablet is replaceable locally instead of being a special order. Perfect For Shops adding alignment for the first time, where the question is whether the service pays at all before it is worth optimising. Lower-volume general repair shops doing alignment alongside brakes, tires and suspension rather than as a dedicated bay. Tire retailers who currently subcontract the alignment they already recommend on every set of tires. Mobile and specialist operators who need real 3D measurement without a permanent installation. What is in the Box Katool's own feature list names the contents: the mobile 3D aligner with its two-camera measurement system and manually positioned post, a tablet, a 30 inch display screen, a mouse and keypad, a printer for alignment reports, a wifi device and a USB drive. Turn plates, slip plates and any lift preparation are not described as included. If the lift you intend to pair this with has never been used for alignment, ask us what else is needed before you order. It is a question that comes up less on measuring equipment than on lifting equipment, but it does come up: certain commercial insurance policies, certain fleet and municipal service contracts and certain jurisdictions specify equipment approvals by name, and a manufacturer's own declaration of conformity is not the same document as an independent listing. If any of that governs your shop, get the requirement in writing from your insurer or your inspector, then ask us for whatever documentation ships with this system and we will send it as it stands. Shipping and delivery The KT-AV651 travels by freight truck to addresses in the lower 48 states in two crates, and freight is quoted live at checkout against your address so the figure you see is a current carrier rate. Unloading is the receiver's responsibility. Neither crate is especially heavy, but the beam crate is long and will not negotiate a tight corner, so look at the route from the delivery point to the bay before the truck is booked rather than while it waits. Collecting from the carrier's local terminal is often the easier route and the terminal has the equipment. Delivery to a residential address carries a residential fee, applied at checkout when you choose that option. Inspect both crates before signing anything. Camera equipment conceals impact damage well, so examine corners and banding closely, note anything you find on the bill of lading while the driver is still there, and photograph it. A clean signature is the carrier's evidence that the shipment arrived undamaged, and reversing that afterwards is very difficult. Warranty This system carries a one-year limited warranty on parts, and Katool publishes the full warranty document separately. One warning applies to any optical measurement equipment: if a camera or the beam is damaged, or readings start to drift, do not open a camera housing or attempt to re-seat an optic before a claim is raised. A disassembled instrument is normally treated as a modified one, which is the fastest way to lose coverage that would otherwise have been honoured. Photograph the fault, record the serial number, and call first. Contact us for more information on wheel alignment machines.
