No printed nylon selector. No upgrade to buy later. Metal selector, metal internals, bearing steel main pin, 3M spacer shim in the box, and confirmed to run in AR-15 mil-spec and PCC lowers with mil-spec, LaRue, and Geissele triggers. This kit replaces the Kabuto Gen 2 and Gen 3. We have discontinued both printed-selector versions. The metal ambi kit is the only Kabuto we sell, at the same $139.99 the Gen 3 was. If you came here looking for the Gen 2, Gen 3, or "Kubota" — this is the current version, and it is the one we would have told you to buy anyway. What's In The Box Kabuto FRT Drop-in forced reset trigger device. No permanent modifications to your lower. Metal Ambi Selector Stainless steel 3-position ambidextrous selector — Safe, Semi, Forced Reset. Screw-on right-side lever. 3M Spacer Shim Adhesive shim for M16-cut and wide-wall lowers. Kills lateral movement that causes inconsistent reset. Die-Cut Stickers Kabuto branded sticker pack in every kit. Why The Metal Selector Matters Every other Kabuto kit on the market ships with a 3D printed polymer selector. That printed selector was the number one failure point on the Gen 2 and Gen 3 — levers cracking, detents going soft, the whole selector deforming under heat. We stopped selling those kits because of it. This is the fix. Stainless steel selector body, timing plunger, and timing lever — zero printed parts in the safety selector Ambidextrous out of the box — left and right lever, no extra hardware Crisp metal-on-metal detents between Safe, Semi, and Forced Reset — printed selectors get mushy, this one doesn't Bearing steel main pivot pin — the only Kabuto with one. Lower friction, higher wear resistance, more consistent reset feel over the life of the trigger 3M spacer shim included — the single most overlooked fix for Kabuto reliability complaints in PSA and other M16-cut lowers Platform Compatibility AR-15 and PCC confirmed. This is one of the only Kabuto configurations verified to run reliably in pistol caliber carbine builds. Works with AR-15 mil-spec lowers · PCC 9mm, .40 S&W, .45 ACP · Mil-spec, LaRue, and Geissele triggers Does not fit CMMG .22 lowers. M16-cut lowers require the included spacer shim. BCG required M16-profile full-auto cut BCG. A semi-spec carrier will not engage the reset. Buffer H2 minimum, H3 recommended. No solid buffers. Specs Trigger type Forced reset trigger — drop-in, no permanent modifications Selector Full metal ambidextrous stainless steel, 3-position (Safe / Semi / Forced Reset) Internals Metal timing plunger and timing lever Main pin Bearing steel Spacer shim Included — 3M adhesive, for M16-cut and wide-wall lowers Country of origin USA — Made in Dallas, Texas Price $139.99 Install & Break-In Full step-by-step with photos is on our Kabuto FRT installation guide. The metal selector installs differently from a nylon one: remove the right-side screw, pop the lever off, seat the selector in the Safe position, reinstall plunger and grip, slide the lever back on, and tighten the screw. Before live fire, cycle and dry-fire 10–20 times to seat the contact surfaces. If it doesn't cycle cleanly in the FRT position on dry fire, run one or two magazines in Semi first — this is normal for every Kabuto-style FRT. A light polish on the lever contact surface clears any remaining stiffness. Legality: Forced reset triggers fire one round per function of the trigger and are semi-automatic devices. State restrictions apply in some jurisdictions. Check the current federal and state breakdown at Are FRT Triggers Legal? before ordering. Knowing your local law is your responsibility. Frequently Asked Questions Is this the same as the Kabuto Gen 3 or the NSPEC Kubota? Same forced reset mechanism, upgraded kit. The Gen 2 and Gen 3 shipped with a 3D printed nylon selector; this kit ships with a full stainless steel ambi selector, a bearing steel main pin, and the 3M spacer shim. "Kubota" is a common misspelling of Kabuto — it is the same product. We discontinued the Gen 2 and Gen 3 and now only sell this version. Why did you stop selling the Gen 3? The printed selector. It was the most common failure point we saw — cracked levers, worn detents, deformation under sustained fire. The metal selector kit eliminates it. Same price as the Gen 3 was. Does this Kabuto work in PCC builds — 9mm, .40 S&W, .45 ACP? Yes. It is one of the few Kabuto configurations confirmed to run reliably in AR-9 and other pistol caliber carbine lowers. Use the spacer shim if your PCC lower has a wide shelf. What is the 3M spacer shim for? M16-cut and wide-wall lowers — almost every PSA lower, and many PCC lowers — have a slightly wider shelf that lets the Kabuto shift side to side during operation. That lateral movement causes inconsistent reset. The shim fills the gap and locks the device in place. It ships in every kit; use it if your lower needs it. Does it require a full-auto cut BCG? Yes, like every FRT. An M16-profile carrier is required — a semi-spec BCG will not engage the reset. If you need one, see our USA made M16 full auto cut BCG. What buffer should I run? H2 minimum, H3 recommended, never solid. Solid buffers cycle too fast for the reset to engage. See the AR-15 buffer collection for compatible H2, H2.5, and H3 options. Is this compatible with LaRue and Geissele triggers? Yes — confirmed with LaRue, Geissele, and standard mil-spec triggers. Other trigger types may work but are untested. Is the Kabuto FRT legal? Forced reset triggers are semi-automatic and legal in most states, with restrictions in some. See Are FRT Triggers Legal? for the current state-by-state status before ordering.
