JBL SilicatEx Rapid Filter Media is engineered to remove silicate from both freshwater and marine water aquariums, effectively addressing the root cause of unwanted diatom algae. This filter media not only eradicates silicate but also tackles phosphates, thereby limiting the growth of various types of algae. Using SilicatEx Rapid, aquarium owners can create living conditions akin to natural biotopes, enhancing the aesthetic and biological balance of their aquatic environments. Algae growth, particularly diatoms, can be unsightly as they form a brown coating on plants, substrates, and decorations. This occurs when silicic acid or silicates exceed 0.4 mg/l, a common phenomenon due to natural deposits in tap water. By removing silicic acid, diatoms are left unable to form their skeletal structures, thus preventing any further growth. While diatoms are non-toxic and sometimes part of grazing cichlids' diets in lakes like Malawi and Tanganyika, their presence is often unwanted in aquariums. Often confused with slime algae, diatoms will feel rough rather than slimy when touched, making them distinguishable. Key Features: Effectively removes silicates and phosphates from the water. Helps prevent the growth of diatom (brown) algae. Promotes a natural, biotope-like environment. Suitable for both freshwater and marine aquariums. JBL SilicatEx Rapid Filter Media provides an efficient solution for aquarium enthusiasts looking to maintain pristine conditions by controlling algae proliferation. By targeting silicate levels, this product fosters a cleaner and more appealing aquatic setting. Specifications: Product Type: Aquarium Filter Media Brand: JBL
