Choose Your Style: Wrap‑Around vs. Bikini To ensure your bird has the best experience, we offer two distinct styles tailored to their activity level and species: The Wrap‑Around Hen Holster: Wraps securely around your bird’s tail, offering the ultimate adjustability over the vent. Covers the oil gland and is the ideal choice for ducks, geese, and active chickens. Highly adjustable and the most “forgiving” style regarding sizing. The Bikini Hen Holster: A lighter “bikini bottom” diaper that sits comfortably below the tail. Features two adjustable straps and leaves the oil gland uncovered, making it perfect for chickens who preen frequently. Note: Not suitable for ducks or geese and requires precise sizing to stay securely in place. Details & Materials Why Owners Love the “All‑in‑One” Permanent Liner This Hen Holster® design is for bird parents who want a soft, flexible, single‑piece solution. The sewn‑in PUL liner and harness body work together as one unit, so there are no loose pads or inserts to manage. Integrated permanent PUL liner: The waterproof liner is sewn directly into the pouch, so it cannot bunch, slide, or fall out. Zero shifting = fewer leaks: Because the liner is part of the diaper, it stays properly positioned over the vent, even on active birds. Softer, flexible pouch: Moves more naturally with your bird’s body than stiff, removable pads. Simple “one‑piece” design: No extra liners to track or lose in the wash—just wash, dry, and re‑use. Surprisingly fast drying: Many owners report this style dries faster after washing than thicker removable liner pads. Extra‑durable construction: Built for long‑term daily use and repeated washing. Handmade in the USA: Crafted with bird‑safe materials for reliable indoor use. Bikini Style: Sits below the tail and leaves the oil gland exposed. Best for chickens who love to preen and need access to their oil gland to keep feathers healthy. Wrap‑Around Style: Wraps securely around the tail and covers the oil gland. Mandatory for ducks & geese (wet droppings) and great for active chickens who need extra containment. The “statue” phase (don’t panic!):When you first put a harness or diaper on a bird, they often freeze, walk backwards, or act “paralyzed.” This is 100% normal. Offer treats, give them 15–30 minutes to adjust, and most birds quickly forget they’re wearing it. Snug fit = success:Most leaks happen because the pouch is fastened too loosely or not angled correctly—not because of a defect in the product. The diaper cannot function properly if it hangs too low or gaps away from the body. ⚠️ STOP: Watch the “Perfect Fit” video before first use! Before using your Hen Holster for extended wear, watch the fit video in the FAQ area of this page. It shows exactly how to: Angle the pouch correctly under the vent. Overlap the sides securely so the pouch is snug against the body. Check that straps are tight enough to stay put without causing discomfort. How to Fit & Train Your Bird The “Statue” Phase (Don’t Panic!): When you first put it on, your bird might freeze, walk backward, or act unsure. This is normal—use treats and gentle encouragement. Looks small? Try it on! The design is meant to be snug to prevent leaks. Many owners think it looks too small out of the package—please try it on your bird before assuming it doesn’t fit. Secure fastening: For fluffy birds, smooth feathers down where the straps sit to get the best Velcro grip. Straps should be snug but allow one finger to slide underneath. First‑time user? Choose Wrap‑Around: If you’re new to bird diapers or unsure of size, the Wrap‑Around style is much more adjustable and forgiving than the Bikini style. Everyday training tips: Start with short wear sessions indoors and gradually increase time. Pair wearing the Hen Holster with treats, cuddles, or favorite activities. Watch your bird’s movement—adjust if you see rubbing, shifting, or irritation. FAQs Why does the permanent liner design work so well? Integrated liner means no parts to lose or misalign. Dries faster than many removable‑liner styles. Simple all‑in‑one design – fewer components to manage day‑to‑day. Maintains shape and function after hundreds of washes. Which birds benefit most? Pet birds (chickens, pigeons, and large parrots) spending time cage‑free indoors. House chickens and therapy chickens. Chickens for shows and exhibitions that need to stay clean. Chickens recovering from injuries or illness indoors. Disabled chickens needing long‑term indoor care. Backyard chickens brought inside temporarily (extreme weather, recovery, etc.). Which Hen Holster style is right for my bird? Both Wrap‑Around and Bikini are harness‑style diapers with a permanent PUL liner and a soft, flexible pouch that sits over the vent: Simple all‑in‑one design – no liner swapping. Softer, flexible pouch (if you need a pouch that holds a rigid shape, choose the vinyl‑liner version instead). Perfect for chickens living indoors full‑time. Faster drying time and fewer parts to manage. Wrap‑Around Hen Holster diaper: Wraps around the tail and offers maximum adjustability over the vent. Covers the oil gland and is suitable for ducks, geese, and active chickens. More adjustable and more forgiving of sizing than the Bikini style. Bikini Hen Holster diaper: Lighter “bikini bottom” diaper that sits below the tail. Two adjustable straps and does not cover the oil gland. Best for chickens who preen often; not suitable for ducks or geese. Less forgiving of sizing and may slip if too large. Care Instructions Washing: Machine wash cold; tumble dry low or air dry. Rotation: For full‑time indoor use, we recommend having 2–3 Hen Holsters so you always have a clean one ready while others are washing. Durability: The sewn‑in PUL liner and diaper body are designed to maintain shape and absorbency after hundreds of washes. Inspection: Check stitching, straps, and Velcro regularly and replace if any part shows significant wear.
