From Arden Moore, the award-winning author and host of "Pet Show, Oh! Behave" on Pet Life Radio, comes a must-have handbook for anyone who wants to learn a dog the right way. Filled with amazing illustrations and quirky scenarios, Moore lays down the cornerstones for your dog's obedience and training with three basic commands, gives tips and tricks, and warns about mistakes that first-time pet owners may sometimes make that could set back the training of their dog. Moore belongs to the Dog Writers Association of America and the Association of Veterinary Communicators. Her straightforward approach to dog training uses positive reinforcement. She provides simple-to-understand step-by-step instructions and guidance, as well as the logic and reasoning behind each step. Her insightful reasoning, calm demeanor, and can-do attitude make her book more than just a manual—it's an entertaining treat filled with golden nuggets of wisdom and common sense. Whether laying the foundation for a lifetime of learning or eradicating behavioral problems, this book can help even the most out-of-control pet owners take back the reigns and form a lasting bond with their dog. For example, a common mistake sometimes made by first-time pet owners when dog training is using the dog's name when correcting their pet: "No, Rover! Bad dog!" Doing this will prevent your dog from listening the next time that it's called to come to you out of fear of being in trouble again. Instead, you should use an agreed-upon word, vocalization (like a growl), or whistle to convey displeasure—never the dog's name. To read Come Sit Stay is to understand your dog and build a lasting respect and relationship with your family pet. It's never too late to train your dog to have better behavior or to understand what your pet is thinking when it's doing the bad behaviors that it does, such as jumping on strangers, digging up your backyard, running away, or chewing on shoes and furniture. Understanding the mentality of your pet will better serve to train your dog and to fix problematic behaviors faster. Whether laying the foundation for a lifetime of learning or eradicating behavioral problems, this book can help even the most out-of-control pet owners take back the reigns and form a lasting bond with their dog.
