Chicago Pneumatic RCP-C7581V: a slow-turning cast iron pump, and why that is the specification to buy on This listing publishes a number most compressor pages leave out, and it is the most informative figure on the page — Pump RPM: 900. Pump speed is what quietly decides how long a piston compressor lasts. Every revolution is a cycle of heat, load and wear on rings, valves and bearings, so a pump that turns slowly to make the same air does less work on itself per hour of running and runs cooler while it does it. It is also why a machine of this output can be described as relatively quiet: most compressor noise is pump speed. The rest of the specification supports the same argument. An all cast iron, two-stage pump on an 80 Gallon vertical tank, 7.5 HP, 23 CFM @ 100 psi, 175 psi maximum, on 208-230 Volt 1-Phase supply. Chicago Pneumatic's Iron Series is built on low pump speed and heavy construction rather than on chasing a headline output from a light machine. Sizing: what 23 CFM supports This product's own description puts it at a four- or five-person automotive shop, or a one- to two-person body shop, and that is a fair reading of 23 CFM @ 100 psi. The reasoning behind those numbers is worth having, because shops differ. Intermittent hand tools — impacts, ratchets, blow guns, tyre work — draw air in short bursts, and several technicians using them rarely peak at the same instant, so a machine of this size absorbs the overlap. Continuous consumers behave differently: a sander, a blast cabinet or a spray gun draws steadily for as long as it is triggered, and two of those running together will out-consume most single-machine installations regardless of tank size. So the honest method is to list the tools you will genuinely run simultaneously, add their consumption, and compare. Send us that list and we will check it against this model before you order — it is a five-minute exercise that prevents the most expensive mistake in shop air. The electrical question, which on this model comes first 7.5 HP on 1-Phase supply is a large single-phase motor, and the circuit it needs is the thing most likely to delay an installation. It is not exotic and it is not a problem — it is simply a conversation to have with an electrician before the machine is on a truck rather than after it is standing in the bay. Take the nameplate rating and the 208-230 Volt supply requirement to whoever looks after your panel and ask two questions: is there capacity for another motor circuit of this size, and what conductor and protection does the run to the compressor's position need. Both answers depend on distance and local code, which is why they belong to your electrician and not to a product page. A magnetic starter is fitted to the machine, so the switching and overload protection at the motor are taken care of. Cast iron, two stages, and a vertical tank Two-stage compression means the air is compressed, cooled between stages, and compressed again — which is how the machine holds 175 psi as a normal working condition rather than a strained peak. The pressure headroom is what keeps the regulator at the tool fed steadily as the tank falls, instead of the last few tools of the day getting the worst air. The all cast iron pump is the other half of the durability story that starts with pump speed. Iron has mass, mass absorbs and sheds the heat of compression, and an iron cylinder wears slowly and can be serviced rather than discarded. Heat and speed are what kill compressor pumps; this design reduces both. The 80 Gallon receiver is vertical, which trades floor area for height. In a busy shop that usually wins — the machine takes a corner instead of a run of wall — but it does need real ceiling clearance above the tank and a genuinely level, solid floor beneath 610 lbs standing on end. Will It Fit? Power, floor and services Confirming supply, floor and clearances before ordering is the buyer's responsibility. Electrical supply: 208-230 Volt, 1-Phase, magnetic starter fitted. See the section above — this is the item to settle first. Tank: 80 Gallon, vertical, ASME/CRN with safety valves. Footprint: our data gives an overall length of 37". Overall width and height are recorded without units and we will not print a measurement whose unit we cannot state — on a vertical machine, height is the one you least want to guess. Ask us and we will confirm the drawing before you clear the space. Weight: 610 lbs, standing on the tank feet. Flat, solid floor, bolted down. Tank outlet: 3/4" — size the shop main from that. Ventilation: an air-cooled pump needs air moving around it. Enclosed in a cupboard with no airflow, any compressor runs hot and ages early. Perfect For Four- and five-person automotive shops — the size this product's description is written for. One- and two-person body shops, where air is drawn steadily rather than in bursts. Single-phase buildings with panel capacity for a large motor circuit. Buyers replacing a fast, noisy compressor who want the slow-turning cast iron alternative. What's in the Box A complete factory assembly: the all cast iron two-stage pump and motor mounted on the 80 Gallon vertical ASME/CRN tank, with the magnetic starter, gauges, tank drain and safety valves. Not included: electrical installation and the circuit itself, any air dryer or downstream filtration, and pipework from the 3/4" outlet. This machine is not specified with a dryer or an electronic drain valve, so plan air treatment separately if you spray or run instrumentation. If anything in your order depends on an item being supplied, ask us to put it in writing before you buy. Specifications Output and pressure Rated flow 23 CFM @ 100 psi Maximum pressure 175 psi Stages Two stage, intercooled Pump RPM 900 Motor, pump and supply Rated power 7.5 HP Pump All cast iron Supply 208-230 Volt Phase 1-Phase Magnetic starter Fitted Tank, size and weight Receiver 80 Gallon, vertical, ASME/CRN Tank outlet 3/4" Overall length 37" Weight 610 lbs Air dryer Not fitted Electronic drain valve Not fitted Manual draining is therefore part of the weekly routine. On a vertical receiver the drain sits under a tall column of condensate, so an accessible drain line is worth fitting if the tank ends up in a corner. Certification, stated plainly The certification claim in this product's data is the receiver: an ASME/CRN pressure vessel with safety valves, which is the claim that matters most on a tank working at 175 psi. It is not a whole-machine third-party safety listing, and we will not present it as one. A vessel certificate covers the vessel. Electrical installation to local code remains your electrician's responsibility, and any local pressure-vessel inspection regime applies to the tank once it is installed. Where an insurer, a fleet standard or a local inspector asks for specific documentation on hard-wired plant, ask us before ordering and we will establish in writing what this model can actually evidence rather than leave you to assume. Shipping and delivery This compressor moves as palletised freight within the lower 48 states, free of charge. Sort out the unload first. At 610 lbs and standing tall, this is forklift or dock work, or a pallet jack on flat ground — the driver brings it to the tailboard and no further. Without equipment on site, take terminal pickup and collect the pallet yourself. Delivery to a home address is a residential delivery and carries a residential fee. Check it before your signature goes on the paperwork. Inspect the tank, pump, gauges and fittings with the driver present and record any damage or shortage on the bill of lading. Tall freight takes knocks; a note written at the kerb is a claim, and a clean signature is an assertion that nothing was wrong. Warranty The machine carries a 2 Year full warranty which this product's listing states covers everything on it, valves included, with nothing extra to purchase. On a piston compressor that inclusion is the meaningful part — valves are ordinarily the first thing an agreement carves out. Protect that cover with one habit: if the pump develops a fault, leave it assembled. Stop the machine, isolate it and call us. Once a pump has been stripped, what failed first becomes a matter of opinion, and a claim built on opinion is a claim you are likely to lose. Photographs of the fault as found are worth more than any account written later.
