Chicago Pneumatic QRS3.0HP-1: a named motor, on a screw compressor a single-phase shop can actually run Most compressor listings tell you the horsepower and stop. This one names the motor: a TEFC Baldor. That is worth more than it looks. Baldor is a motor manufacturer with its own parts and service network, so the part most likely to need attention in ten years is identifiable, quotable and replaceable rather than an anonymous casting with a paint-stamped rating. TEFC — totally enclosed, fan cooled — is the enclosure you want on a motor that lives in a room full of dust, swarf and aerosol. Around it: a 3 HP rotary screw airend on a 60 Gallon ASME/CRN tank, rated 100% duty, delivering 8.5 CFM at 150 psi at 61 dBA, on 230 Volt single-phase supply. That last point is the reason a lot of buyers end up here: this is rotary screw duty at a size and a supply an ordinary workshop already has. The dryer claim, and why we are flagging it rather than selling it This product's feature list states an integrated air dryer. A separate specification field on the same product records the air dryer as not fitted. Both cannot be right, and the difference is a real piece of equipment with a real price. It matters most if you spray, run air-driven instrumentation, or work in a humid climate, because a dryer is what keeps water out of the line and off the panel. Ask us to confirm the dryer configuration of the unit we would ship, in writing, before you order. If it turns out not to be fitted, downstream drying is straightforward to add — but it should be a decision you make with the numbers in front of you rather than a surprise on installation day. What a screw compressor changes at 3 HP At this size the alternative is a piston compressor, and the comparison is not really about output. It is about duty and noise. Duty first: this machine is rated 100%. A piston compressor of similar output is rated for a fraction of the hour, so a long job — sanding a panel, running a ratchet through a suspension strip — pushes it into the cooling pauses where line pressure sags. A screw airend has no reciprocating mass to overheat; the rotors mesh and keep moving for as long as air is being drawn. Noise second: 61 dBA in a low sound enclosure. That is quiet enough for the machine to live in the same room as the work, which in turn keeps the pipe run short and the pressure at the tool high. A compressor exiled to an outbuilding for peace and quiet gives back some of its output in the pipework getting home. Control is start/stop, so the motor makes air when the shop wants it and stops when it does not, rather than idling and charging you for the privilege. Will It Fit? Power, space and siting Confirming the supply, floor and ventilation before delivery is the buyer's responsibility. The supply here is the least demanding in this range, which is much of the appeal. Electrical supply: 230 Volt, 1 Phase. No three-phase service required. Hand those figures and the machine's nameplate to your electrician early — conductor size and protection depend on your run length and local code, and that is their call to make, not ours. Tank: 60 Gallon ASME/CRN receiver, horizontal. The certification here is on the pressure vessel, which is the part of the machine that holds stored energy. Footprint: overall length 56.3". Overall width and height are held in our data as bare numbers with no units attached, so we have not published them — a figure with no unit is not a measurement. Ask us if the exact footprint decides your installation. Weight: 397 lbs on a level, solid pad. Tank outlet: 1/2", the connection your shop main is sized from. Ventilation: a sound enclosure keeps noise in and heat in with it. Airflow around the machine and an escape route for warm air are not optional in a closed compressor room. Perfect For Serious home and single-bay workshops on single-phase power that want screw-compressor behaviour without a new electrical service. Small independents where the compressor sits close to the work and noise is a daily consideration. Buyers who care what is inside the machine — a named, serviceable motor rather than an unbranded one. Anyone tired of waiting for a piston compressor to catch up during a long job. What's in the Box The compressor as a complete mounted package: the rotary screw airend and the TEFC Baldor motor in a low sound enclosure, on the 60 Gallon ASME/CRN tank, with the UL and cUL approved control panel and start/stop control. The dryer is subject to the confirmation above. Not supplied in any case: the electrical installation and its circuit, downstream filtration, shop pipework from the 1/2" outlet, and the authorized start-up described under Warranty. If your order depends on something being in the crate, get it confirmed in writing first. Skip it for a year and the receiver corrodes from the inside, which is the one failure on a compressor of this class that is entirely preventable. Approvals, and exactly what they cover Two real claims sit in this product's data, and both are narrower than a casual reader assumes. The control panel is approved by UL and cUL — that is the electrical control gear, the part an electrician and, in some places, an inspector will examine. The receiver is an ASME/CRN tank, which is the pressure-vessel side of the machine. Neither is a whole-machine third-party safety listing, and we are not going to describe them as one. Installation to local electrical code remains your electrician's responsibility, and any local pressure-vessel inspection regime still applies to the receiver once it is in your building. If your insurer, your fleet policy or your local authority sets a specific documentation requirement, ask us before you order and we will confirm in writing what this model actually ships with. Shipping and delivery The compressor travels as palletised freight to the lower 48 states. This item ships free, so there is nothing to add at checkout. Plan the unload in advance. 397 lbs on a pallet needs a forklift, a dock, or a pallet jack on level ground, because the carrier's responsibility stops at the tailboard. Without that equipment, take terminal pickup and collect the machine yourself. A home address counts as a residential delivery and attracts a residential fee — worth knowing at the point of ordering rather than at the kerb. Inspect before signing. With the driver present, check the enclosure, the tank, the panel and the fittings and write any damage or shortage onto the bill of lading before your name goes on it. That note is what supports a claim; a clean signature records that everything arrived intact. Warranty A 5 Year warranty is available on this compressor, conditional on an authorized start-up being carried out. This product's own listing asks buyers to contact us for the details rather than publishing terms, so that is exactly what we will do: ask us before ordering and we will confirm the current warranty conditions and what the commissioning visit costs, in writing, while you are still deciding. The start-up is worth having whatever the paperwork says. Rotation direction, oil level, control settings and a first-hours check by an engineer who does this weekly is what separates a machine that runs quietly for a decade from one that fails early for a reason nobody wrote down. If a fault appears, shut the machine down, isolate the supply and speak to us before anything is opened. An airend that has already been dismantled cannot be properly assessed, and a claim on one is extremely difficult to support. Photograph the fault as you found it and leave the machine assembled.
