QRS15HP-150: the 15 HP rotary screw that arrives with its receiver already attached This is the tank-mounted build of Chicago Pneumatic's 15 HP rotary screw range. It does not ship as a bare airend waiting to be married to a tank you buy separately — it comes bolted onto a 132 gallon horizontal receiver, isolated and plumbed as one assembly. That single decision is what separates it from the base-mount version of the same machine, and it is why shops replacing a worn piston unit usually land here: one crate, one set of connections, one commissioning visit. The compressors in this range are built in Italy by Atlas Copco, and the airend carries a 100% duty rating. That rating is the practical difference between a screw compressor and the reciprocating machine it tends to replace. There is no share of the hour the unit has to spend cooling off, so a long paint session or a full day of air tools does not run into a recovery ceiling. What the receiver is actually doing A screw compressor does not need a tank to smooth pump pulses the way a piston compressor does. The 132 gallon receiver on this unit is doing two other jobs. First, it buffers demand spikes: when several technicians pull air at the same moment, stored volume covers the surge while the compressor comes on load, which keeps pressure from sagging at the far end of the shop. Second, it gives water somewhere to fall out of the air stream before it reaches your lines. Note that this package has no integrated dryer, so if you spray finish or run air gauges, plan for downstream drying and put a drop leg and a drain at the low point of the header. Load, no-load, and why the timed shutdown matters The control scheme is load / no-load with a timed shutdown. In plain terms: when the shop stops using air, the machine unloads rather than stopping dead, then shuts itself down after a set idle period instead of idling all afternoon. On a screw compressor that sequence protects the airend from short-cycling, which is the failure mode that kills rotary screws in shops that treat them like piston units. The control panel is UL, cUL and CSA approved and sits behind NEMA 1 electrical protection. Serviceability you will care about in year three Two details on this build pay off long after the sale. The oil filter and the separator are both spin-on cartridges, so a routine service is a wrench job rather than a teardown — that is the difference between a technician doing it on site and the machine going out for work. And the whole assembly is vibration isolated on the tank, which keeps the airend's running vibration out of the receiver shell and out of the slab. Sound output is quoted at 69 dBA, low enough that this can live in the same room as the people using it rather than in a closet you then have to duct. Will it fit, and will it run? Power is the first thing to check, not the last. This unit takes 208-230/460V, 3-phase supply through a TEFC motor. If your building is single phase, this machine is not a candidate — a phase converter is a conversation to have with your electrician before you order, not after the crate lands. Physically the package is about 76.2 inches long and weighs roughly 622 lbs, so it needs a clear run for a pallet jack and a flat, load-bearing pad. The listing also records an overall width and height, but those two figures are stored with no unit attached, so we are not going to guess at them here; ask us and we will pull the dimensioned drawing from the manual rather than quote you a number we cannot stand behind. Confirming clearances, electrical supply, ventilation and floor loading is the buyer's responsibility, and it is worth ten minutes with a tape measure before the freight is booked. Perfect for Independent repair shops running several bays of air tools where the old piston compressor can no longer keep up on a busy morning. Body and paint shops that need continuous air rather than a duty-limited machine, with dedicated drying added downstream. Fabrication and production floors where a plasma cutter or blast cabinet holds the compressor on load for long stretches. Dealership service departments standardising on one machine per building instead of several small units. What is in the box The listing describes the compressor as a complete package: the 15 HP TEFC motor and airend, the load / no-load control with timed shutdown, the approved control panel, the spin-on oil filter and separator, the vibration isolated mounting, and the 132 gallon horizontal tank the whole thing sits on. Anything beyond that — dryer, filtration, drain, shut-off valve, piping, pad hardware, electrical disconnect — is not stated as included, so treat it as your side of the job unless we confirm otherwise in writing. Specifications Model QRS15HP-150 Motor 15 HP TEFC, 208-230/460V, 3-phase Delivery 51 CFM at 150 psi Unload pressure 150 psi Duty cycle 100% Sound level 69 dBA Receiver 132 gallon horizontal tank Tank outlet 1/2 inch Overall length 76.2 inches Weight 622 lbs Electrical protection NEMA 1 Approvals, stated plainly What this listing claims is specific and limited: the control panel carries UL, cUL and CSA approval and the enclosure is NEMA 1. That is an electrical-panel approval. It is not a pressure-vessel registration statement, and this page makes no such claim about the receiver one way or the other. Some jurisdictions, insurers and plant safety programmes want vessel paperwork on file for a tank this size. If yours does, ask us before you order and we will chase the documentation from the manufacturer rather than let you assume it. Shipping and delivery This ships as freight on a pallet to the lower 48 states. Freight is quoted live at checkout because lanes move, so the figure you see is the current one rather than a stale estimate. You must be able to take the unit off the truck — a forklift or loading dock is the normal arrangement — or elect to collect it from the carrier's terminal, which many shops without a dock prefer. Delivery to a residential address carries a residential fee. When the driver arrives, walk the pallet before you sign: check the tank shell for dents, the shroud for crush damage and the pallet for signs of a fall, and write anything you find on the bill of lading at the moment of delivery. A note on the paperwork is what makes a damage claim work; a phone call two days later usually does not. Warranty Standard cover is 1 year. Cover of 5 years is available if the machine is commissioned by a factory-authorized start-up, which is typically billed at $350. That start-up is worth planning into the install rather than treating as an upsell, because it is the step that puts the longer term on the table. One warning that applies to every compressor we sell: do not disassemble the airend, the separator housing or the control panel before a claim is opened. A unit that has been opened is very hard to claim on, and the first question a manufacturer asks is who took it apart.
