Champion VR7F-8: built around a named pump, not an anonymous one Most compressor listings will tell you the horsepower and leave the pump — the part that actually wears out, and the part you will one day need service items for — as an unnamed lump of iron. This one names it. The VR7F-8 is built on the R15 pump, and that matters when you are five years in and looking for a gasket set, a valve or an honest answer about whether a rebuild is worth it. Around that pump: a 7.5 HP motor, an 80-gallon vertical receiver, 22.3 CFM delivered at 175 PSI, and a machine that weighs 630 lbs and stands on a 31" base at 75" tall. It is the compact end of the Advantage line — a real shop compressor rather than a large garage one. Why the pump is the specification that ages Motors are commodity items and tanks rarely fail. The pump is where the running hours accumulate: valves, rings, bearings and the cylinder surfaces all wear at a rate set by how hard and how hot the pump works. A named pump model gives you three practical things — parts you can order by name, service literature that matches the machine in front of you, and a technician who does not have to guess. This pump is splash lubricated with an oil-level sight glass, has multi-finned cylinders and an integral cylinder head to shed heat, runs intercooled between stages, uses high-flow disc valves, and carries oversized main bearings on a balanced crankshaft. Read that list as one idea rather than nine: the design is trying to keep the pump cool and keep it still, because heat and vibration are what retire reciprocating compressors. 22.3 CFM at 175 PSI, and what that actually runs The useful question is not what a compressor makes but what you take. 22.3 CFM supports a one to two-technician shop working normally: impacts, ratchets, blow guns, tyre work, intermittent grinding, and spray work in reasonable stretches rather than continuously. Where it gets tight is two continuous-draw tools at once — a sander and a die grinder together will take air for as long as two triggers are held. The 80-gallon vertical receiver is the buffer that makes the number work in the real world, absorbing bursts so the pump catches up between them and the motor starts less often. Being upright, it also takes far less floor than the same volume lying down, and its condensate collects in a deep column below the take-off rather than as a film beside it. There is no electronic drain valve fitted, so that column is somebody's daily job in a humid shop. Will It Fit? Height. 75". Add clearance above for the safety valve and for anyone servicing the pump. Base. 31" — genuinely compact for the capacity, and the reason this model suits a corner rather than a wall run. Leave air around it anyway; the pump is air-cooled. Weight. 630 lbs, the lightest machine of this type we list, but still a forklift or pallet-jack delivery rather than a two-person carry. Supply. 230V. Confirm the phase with us before ordering — see the note below, because our data is not consistent on it. Air connection. 3/4" tank outlet. Your responsibility. Slab, electrical supply, permits, offload and placement are all for the buyer to arrange. Perfect For Small to mid automotive shops with one or two people on air at a time. Spray and refinish work that needs pressure to hold steady through a panel. Tight installations where a 31" base is the difference between fitting and not. Owners who intend to keep a machine long enough for parts availability to matter. What's in the Box The R15 pump with its intercooler, multi-finned cylinders, integral head, disc valves and oil-level sight glass; the 7.5 HP motor; the 80-gallon vertical receiver; a magnetic starter; and a centrifugal unloader for loadless starting. No air dryer is fitted and no electronic drain valve is fitted — raise either before you order if your work depends on dry air. One field in our catalogue records this machine as three-phase; the manufacturer's specification list leaves its phase field blank. Phase is the one decision that cannot be revisited once the machine is on your floor, so treat it as unconfirmed here and have us verify it against your building's supply before you order. Stage count. The feature list supplied with this model describes a heavy-duty two-stage pump with intercooling between stages; the store's own stored summary calls the machine single stage. We have described what the pump is made of rather than asserting a stage count, and if your duty cycle depends on it, ask. The model code. Our catalogue carries a package code for this unit that is not the same string as the model name on this page. That is normal in a series sold as configured packages, but if you are ordering parts or matching an existing machine, quote both to us and we will confirm which is which. Two figures are also missing on purpose: pump speed and overall width are both recorded in our data as bare numbers with no unit written beside them, and we will not publish a measurement whose unit we cannot show you. Certification, stated plainly No third-party safety listing is claimed for this compressor anywhere in the data we hold, and we are not going to imply one. Shop pressure equipment and its electrics are governed by local rules that differ by jurisdiction, and some insurers and fleet operations require a particular listing on the packaged machine before they will cover it. If that is your situation, ask us to confirm in writing what documentation ships with this unit before you place the order. Shipping and delivery Freight to the lower 48 states, priced live at checkout because carrier rates move. 630 lbs crated is at the lighter end of this category but still needs a forklift, a dock, or a pallet jack on a level approach; terminal pickup from the carrier is a perfectly ordinary alternative. Residential addresses carry a residential fee. Inspect before signing — down the receiver for dents, around the pump and motor for impact — and write anything you find on the delivery paperwork while the driver is still with you. Warranty Our record for this model links to the store's warranty claims page without stating a term, so no cover length is printed here — ask us for the current manufacturer terms in writing before you order. Whatever the term, one habit keeps it: if the machine faults, call before anything comes apart. Stripping a pump ahead of the claim is the commonest way a valid claim stops being one.
