Challenger RJ9-GS Rolling Jack, 9,000 lbs. Start with what we can and cannot tell you about this one, because it is the difference between an easy purchase and a returned pallet. The RJ9-GS is a 9,000 lbs. air/hydraulic rolling jack that runs on the accessory rails of a four-post lift, and Challenger describes its width as adjustable. What our data does not carry is the span that adjustment covers. Other jacks in this family publish a figure; for the RJ9-GS, ours does not. So before you order: measure the distance between your runways, tell us, and let us confirm in writing that the RJ9-GS covers it. A rolling jack that will not span your rails is a large object with no use at all, and this is a two-minute check. What a rolling jack is actually replacing Without one, lifting a wheel on a four-post lift means a bottle jack. That means finding a jacking point while lying under a raised vehicle, balancing a small steel cylinder on a runway surface it was never designed to sit on, and pumping a handle in a space with no room to swing it. It is slow, it is awkward, and it is the part of four-post work that technicians quietly avoid. A rolling jack instead lives on the lift permanently. It slides along the accessory rails to the axle you want, comes up under the vehicle from a proper cradle, and takes the wheels off the runway so brakes, tyres, hubs and suspension become normal work rather than a contortion. That is the whole argument: it converts a four-post lift from a storage-and-inspection platform into a service platform. Air over hydraulic, and what you need to supply This jack is air/hydraulic. Shop air does the pumping, hydraulics do the lifting, and there is no handle to work in a cramped space. What that means for you is that the jack needs a live air line at the lift - which most bays already have, but it is worth confirming the reach before delivery day rather than after, because an air drop is an easy job to schedule and an annoying one to improvise. Operation is two-hand by design. Both hands are required on the controls to make the jack lift, which means neither hand can be somewhere it should not be while a vehicle is moving. It is a deliberate constraint and it is the sort that stops the specific accident that happens when someone tries to guide a pad and operate a control at the same time. Low profile, and why that matters when it is not in use The jack has adjustable heights and a low-profile build. The relevant consequence is what happens when you are not using it: a bulky jack parked on the rails is in the way of every drive-on, gets clipped by tyres, and eventually gets left off the lift entirely - at which point you own an accessory you do not use. A low-profile unit stows out of the working envelope and stays on the lift where it is useful. Buy them in pairs, or think carefully about why not Rolling jacks are normally fitted as a pair, one for each axle, and the reason is practical rather than commercial. With one jack you can free one axle at a time, which covers a brake job on one end. With two you can free the whole vehicle, rotate a full set of tyres without lowering and re-lifting between axles, and set the vehicle down on stands where you want it. If budget means starting with one, that is a reasonable decision - just make it deliberately rather than discovering the limitation on the first four-wheel job. Perfect For Shops that already own a four-post lift and want it to do wheel-off work. Tyre and brake bays where the lift cycles all day and bottle jacks are the slow step. Fleet workshops doing scheduled brake and tyre service on a four-post. Enthusiast garages with a four-post lift used for storage that should be earning its keep. Will It Fit? The compatibility question for any rolling jack has three parts, and the first is the one that catches people out. Your runway spacing. The jack must span it. Our data does not publish the RJ9-GS span, so this must be confirmed with us before ordering - see the top of this page. Your accessory rails. The jack rides on the rails of a four-post lift. A lift without them cannot take one. Your air supply. A live air line needs to reach the lift. Tell us the make and model of the four-post lift you are fitting it to and we will confirm all three together rather than one at a time. What's in the Box One RJ9-GS air/hydraulic rolling jack, part reference 4018 Adapters for reaching vehicle pick-up points Sold singly. If you want a pair, order two. Anything beyond the adapters supplied is a separate order, and we would rather you asked than assumed. Certification and safety listings, honestly Our product data for the RJ9-GS records no independent North American safety listing for this accessory, and we are not going to imply one by staying quiet about it. In most shops it never comes up. Where it does come up is a workplace covered by an insurer, a franchise agreement or a municipal supply contract that requires equipment carrying a recognised third-party listing - and those requirements sometimes cover lifting accessories, not just the lift. If that is your situation, get the requirement in writing and speak to us before you order rather than after. Shipping and Delivery The RJ9-GS travels as freight within the lower 48 states. It is heavy for its size, so plan how it comes off the truck - a forklift, a dock, or terminal pickup, and warehouse collection is available if that suits you better. Residential delivery can be arranged and carries a fee. This item ships free, so there is nothing to add at checkout. Check it before you sign. Look at the cylinder, the cradle and the control assembly for impact damage, confirm the adapters are present, and write anything you find on the bill of lading with the driver still there. A signature with no note on it is the end of the carrier's responsibility. Warranty Terms and the claim process are on our warranty claims page. No coverage period is stated here because our record for this jack holds a link rather than a term - ask us and we will confirm what applies before you buy. If it fails, tell us before anything is opened. A hydraulic unit that has been stripped cannot be assessed, and taking it apart to look is the most reliable way to turn a good claim into a disagreement. Photograph the fault, note what it was doing and what air pressure was on it, and leave it alone.
